We have to keep him in the short term, I voted international break.

This squad is way too good, if we’re not in the top 6 by international break he should go. KWP, bednarek, stephens, Charles, Alcarez, Adams, Stuey- they’re good players. And with edozie and Frazer, aneroid mayo coming through, we have a very good championship team.

If stephens and bednarek are out he has to play Holgate and THB, with Charles in his actual position. This will be Martins downfall, along with playing smallbone and AA as attacking mids.

The main problem is SR, they’re just too trendy and progressive. Last season we needed a steady hand, we got NJ. This season we need experienced flexible management, it’s not what we have.

I don’t think we will get promoted with Martin in charge, as others have said this is our best chance.

I much prefer the method of finding a hidden gem of a manager then going with the old dinosaurs. Enzo Maresca is an example (so far, we're only 7 games in) of a club seemingly getting the right fit for their situation. I'd give Martin a maximum of 15 games to turn things around, then if not, we have to move on.

The problem is that even with good recruitment for every gem there are 10 duffs. I don’t trust SR to uncover a gem.

In 15 games the season will be lost. If it’s not clear he’s the right man to take us up then we need to make a decision in 5-6 games.

Adkins pissed the league, he was tactically naive in the PL. There must be a manager who can make this team competitive.

He's not been playing Smallbone as an AM in the last few games and he was much better after Shea moved into DM and he was pushed forward last night. To my mind he is a more natural AM than DM but he can play CM with the right players playing with him.
I agree about AA though and he should not be the Captain either.

You're forgetting an important fact, we know nothing, we're only fans, so what do we know about this complicated and analytically run game??

What about when we lose those 5 or 6 games and concede 3 per game?

I don’t know. I honestly feel like this thread is ridiculous because it’s so early. The last thing I want is yet more upheaval. I really want to give him a chance. If there was even a hint of progress forward like the first couple of games I’d have been OK to wait and see.

But Jesus Christ the guy is playing strikers in midfield and making the team look beyond horrific and blaming the fans already. We took a gamble on an unproven manager and alarm bells are ringing massively.

He keeps banging on about his previous teams and how it was a struggle but eventually it clicked.. his teams finished bottom half FFS! It’s not like he’s the league one Pep Guardiola is it?

WTF did SR see in him?

Afte 3 wins and a draw it feels too soon. I don’t know, SR keep making the same mistakes. But the board should be asking questions now and being prepared to replace him 1/4 season in.

I hate dinosaur appointments and boring football but unfortunately it’s what we need right now. After 2 seasons of dire football and low morale we need to start winning a few games and if we can’t win, draw.

I think some people are forgetting we are a club in transition, we have lost a lot of players and brought new ones in.

We are learning a new style of play.
We have a number of injuries.

RM has hardly been able to pick a settled line up, constant changes are needed.

To say RM needs to go is crazy when a few weeks ago, everyone was saying this guy talks so much sense, I love the cut of his jib etc.

Maybe I have more patience than most! I believe we will get better once key players return to fitness and ultimately have a good season.

He was worked out two managerial appointments ago and hasn't improved which is why as outsider looking in I still find it bewildering a club as big as yours went for a manager who has these abundantly clear weaknesses in the way his teams play. For want of people assuming I'm here to gloat, which I'm not as my club is miniscule in comparison to yours and I get no benefit from it realistically, I'm just struggling to see the direction your board/management structure is trying to take your club. As far as I'm concerned, Southampton is too big of a team to be in the Championship but surely someone at the top of the club must be responsible for this downfall? I can't see how they didn't do their homework on someone like Martin.

The problem is our owners are morons themselves. We have a guy called Rasmus ****ersen who is basically a used car salesman himself.

They get taken in by sales pitches and stats on spreadsheets. They don’t value experience or hard work at all. This is why we have ended up with a team of kids and managers that appear good on paper. But as soon as the going gets tough they wilt.

They will have seen Martin’s high possession stats, seen Burnley went up with high possession and thought “he’s the guy. “

Without seeing the work Kompany has done to sort the defence and teach the young players how to properly play football. At the moment we have a load of youngsters being led by charlatans.

We should go and get Graham Potter right now.
It was supposed to take 10 games for the team to adjust to RM`s system/tactics - 3 more games and we`ll reach Utopia then. I don`t see it, and we aren`t improving.

One thing I will say is that I should have put a ‘?’ on the title as i don’t feel as strongly about him leaving than I did about NJ.

I do still want it to work and i really like him as a bloke. But he needs to learn and stop being suicidal. These players are much better than they’ve been playing

He just needs to play the best players in their correct positions and things will get easier. Stop giving away the demoralising cheap goals too. I still think that it's a team in transition and give him a little slack atm.
