Well, we’d better throw the baby out with the bath water then. Don’t think anyone can gripe about what EH did last season or the part season before, in fact it should be the exact opposite. This season is 5 games in, not 25 games in. We’ve won our 2 ‘easier’ games and lost our 3’harder’ games. Our ‘harder’ games being against 3 of the end of season potential top 5 or 6 IMO. Against City we didn’t look as though we would get anything but didn’t play badly. Liverpool we should have beaten but relaxed when we shouldn’t have as they had 10 men and they mugged us at the end. And the one poor performance against Brighton but they are a very good team. Ask Man U. The 2 ‘easier’ games against Villa who look as though they should do well this season and we slaughtered them. And Brentford who until yesterday were unbeaten this season and had confidence and came to kill the game. We haven’t played as well as we could but need to keep things in perspective. The season is only 5 games in. We have played well for a season and a half. We have a new important player in a key position. Let’s wait a bit longer before we start making wholesale changes so as to give Bruno and Tonali some time to get used to each other’s style of play.
Tbf last season is gone and the future isn't known so he's perfectly OK saying Newcastle are not creating enough and not playing well. He's basically right.
Understand all of that, but the reason we’re poor is the predictability and Howe is renowned for never changing. Screenshot this as I don’t think it’s going to get a great deal better - how confident is anyone about is picking up points from the likes of spurs and Chelsea this time around? As I said, adidas aren’t spending £40m a year to finish 12th. The pressure is most definitely on Howe.
Yeah the game was poor, but so was the ref. Just generally, I'm not even picking out specific decisions. He made poor decisions throughout the gane that impacted both teams. Very poor quality.
T. I was going to something similar. But then thought simply saying ‘something similar’ wouldn’t really make too much sense. A bit like saying ‘14 days’ by itself.
Yes but also basically wrong at the same time. We are a big business now. We don’t do knee jerk reactions. We will put everything into perspective, give things time and then react.
How is he wrong exactly? He's not presenting arguments based on past seasons or the future. he's not taking about perspectives. He's saying Newcastle aren't playing well.
Because to address any issue you have to take into account all relevant factors. We’ve been here before. You need to look at the full picture not just part of it. Edit. Actually Roly is making reference to the past seasons. Eg Howe is renowned for not changing.
No you don't... you can say Newcastle aren't creating enough chances when they aren't. The full picture, perspective etc is a totally separate conversation and mental gymnastic.
But if you look at my edited post Roly is putting context and perspective by referencing Howe supposedly never changes. Also, to suggest, as Roly was, that we need to change things as we weren’t creating chances you do need perspective to consider whether we should or shouldn’t. To say otherwise would be real mental gymnastics. Roly wasn’t simply saying in total isolation that we weren’t creating chances.
Sorry I don't quite see what's "wrong". 1. We aren't playing well or creating enough, and have started poorly in a league that appears to have worked us out. 2. We are doing the same things over and over yet expecting things to miraculously just improve. 3. Howe is obstinate and never changes anything, until it's too late. 4. Adidas aren't paying £40m for a team to finish 12th. 5. The pressure is moreso on the manager when we become, as you say, big business.
Agreed. The only game that has frustrated me is the Liverpool one. Until yesterday, and even then Brentford are a top half team but, until yesterday we had played teams around us and spanked Villa, got spanked by Brighton and lost to the team who are likely to win the league. It just leaves the Liverpool game, really frustrating to lose to 10 men when you are already 1 up but these things happen.
No but I’m not often walking round jumping in the air to header the ball with a newcastle player pulling me backwards.
