Let's not kid ourselves. We have beaten 2 clubs that were promoted from league 1 and QPR. There is much work to be done. And the wins against Plymouth and Sheff Weds were not convincing and down to late goals.
I don’t see it. I just don’t see this manager being able to change. I honestly loved what I saw at first, but there is no discipline and there is no logic to the system we play. Yes our team is better than most- but that only shows how poorly we played to start the season as we scraped every win. Hindsight is a terrifying thing.
Well, I think its fair to say that "HMS Piss The League" has well and truly been sunk and is rotting at the bottom of the solent.
I wonder what Martin will say? People kept saying - he has no idea how to make a team defend and it seems to proving true. I wish it wasn't but me wishing it ain't so don't make it so. If this appointment fails - one can't help feeling it might - then Sports Republic really need to question long and hard about their recruitment of management because so far it has been piss-poor.
One thing was clear to me tonight - Leicester got their manager appointment spot on. Maresca is a different class to Martin already.
We really need to go back to the double pivot. Charles and Downes sitting in front of THB and Bednarek. So much work to do.
I thought it was last seen off Plymouth in May as it finds a new home base for 23/24. By the way Southampton shipping is or was RMS!! Anyhow it is far from being a Carnival at the moment.
Yessir. That's pretty clear. He's been a bit hamstrung by injuries to the defence, but that is screamingly obviously clearly the way to go, as it was after Sunderland.
We've let in 9 goals in 3 games, at our home games. 4 managers in 12 months. Just what is it in the water of SMS that creates such poor outcomes? I didn't honestly think we'd be already thinking again that the manager is the problem. I hope RM pulls through this disasterous spell, signs aren't encouraging though.
What a weird evening. I’m still gobsmacked at the Sunderland tactics/performance & tonight was just a **** wit follow on. Weird because I was there for “that” other rainy performance & in someways tonight matched. Gutted & all on RM.
So, can’t really say much that hasn’t already been said but I digress. Number of things really. Russell Martin first and foremost is at fault, there are things I like about the guy and I think there is a manager in there unlike his predecessor, BUT how the **** do you go from a 5 goal hiding to Sunderland and think it’s appropriate to play exactly the same style against what looks like by far and away the best team in the league. Pardon the expression but he needs to stop sniffing his own farts and learn a bit of flexibility. It’s ok having a philosophy, but you have to engage brain from time to time. Now onto the players. What is this shadow that has replaced Kyle Walker-Peters? Utterly disgusting performance and I have to be honest I don’t feel he has looked with it at any point in this season at all, even when we were winning. Honestly he probably needs a spell on the bench, he has been that bad. Charles was moving out to cover KWP and leaving a void in the middle, their third particularly stuck out for this. Also for a side that seemingly totally disregards defence, where is the attacking benefit? When we needed to defend there was no one in defence, when we were passing through the middle there was no one in midfield, when Sulemana dinked the perfect ball into Leicesters box, there was no one there to attack it. So where were our players? As **** as our defending was, if we had effective forwards we would have scored at least 3 today as well, there was a solid 25min period of the second half where Leicester looked dodgy as hell at the back and we did very little. Our players need to engage their brain when passing around at the back, too much autopilot going on with our passing. By the way if passing and possession is our be all and end all, shouldn’t we be good at passing? That all aside though the number one problem is that Martin got the set up disasterously wrong and it was an uphill climb from there.
It’s not the water. It’s the owners. I don’t really have words. I like Martin and want him to succeed but the last two games have been some of the worst I’ve ever seen. Suicide
Positives: - Bazunu had a decent game I thought. - Great to have some atmosphere in the Chapel/Itchen corner. Makes a huge difference to overall atmosphere imo. - We won't have a better team visit St Marys this season. - I left just in time that I didn't have to suffer Aribo
