Why is everybody describing this match as a derby? It's not a derby. The clubs are 60 miles apart and have never had a rivalry until last season.

Southampton v Portsmouth is a derby
Brighton v Crystal Palace is a derby
Southampton v Brighton is not a derby

Reading is nearer to Southampton than Brighton, yet that isn't regarded as a derby. It's nonsense talk, I tell you.

Nope, not in the slightest. Because if we find out who is injured (or recovered from injury for that matter), then our opposition find out too. Would much rather we're left in the dark, it gives us that slight advantage; that slight element of surprise.

And besides, does it really affect our lives if we find out if player X is injured on wednesday morning, or not until 2.30 on saturday afternoon? Not really.

(As I said last night though, I do agree with you that I don't think these injuries are referring to Seaborne or Jaidi).

It's a derby because of the recent animosity between both sets of fans and the managers. Granted it pales in comparison to the larger derbies of Saints vs. Skates and Brighton vs. Palace but a derby is not dictated purely by location or otherwise the very example you gave (Brighton vs. Palace) would not exist.

this makes no sense of course location is important to the term derby in fact it is probably the most important thing to the term derby.

Not too confident about this, they seem to have players back fit (Buckley, Vicente) and are a good team.

Think they'll put a lot of players behind the ball and frustrate us.

0-2 - Two late goals, hope i'm wrong!!

Fancy re-reading my comment? I said "a derby is not dictated purely by location". It isn't. The Palace and Brighton rivalry stems from the two teams clashing over managers (Venables vs. Mullery), some dodgy refereeing decisions in the 70s and something to do with their nicknames (Seagulls vs. Eagles)

Another point for my argument is that derbies are based on previous meetings and animosity generated over time. We were League 1 title rivals with Brighton for a single season and Poyet and Adkins had a few crossed words - how can a derby have developed out of that? It's stupid and it just seems like the term derby is just thrown around willy-nilly nowadays without any real thought.

The Seagulls have the worst disciplinary record in the Championship, with their players shown 37 cards (1R, 36Y).

The perfect outcome tomorrow would be:
    - A Saints win to stick in the face of Poyet!
    - The chanting! ;)

Fonte has apparently bumped into a hairdresser on a bad day. See his interview on Player! and then watch Adkins take on it, Chaplow taking the mick!
