I disagree. Why are we delivering 21st century technology via a 19th century delivery system? I had the original phone line come in underground only for KCOM to not be arsed to replace the fibre underground but stick up a pole instead. Where I live I can't lop a tree branch bigger than a few inches or change various things on the house without permission but the phone companies can do what they like. I'm certainly not a nimby, far from it, but what happens when you have two or three separate poles outside your house? Driving through Anlaby the other day you can see the mess it creates. Typically, when the KCOM fella came (good man he was too) he said that all fibre being fitted outside their original Hull area (where they are expanding) will go underground. Whether that's true or not I don't know. I guess it's all about the cost, as always with these things.
Oh you must mean Ricky, the tramp who was actually ****ting in peoples gardens in Thorngumbald. If you find that acceptable mate then don’t offer me a cuppa if I ever come to yours
If he does turn up be sure to offer him civet coffee. The views expressed in my posts are not necessarily mine.
And whats wrong with moaning about something being unsightly when it's completely unnecessary, it's just allowing service companies to do stuff on the cheap. If you want to live somewhere that looks like the third world go and move there.
It's not unsightly though is it. We've had telegraph poles on streets up and down the UK for years. My intention is to get out of Hedon as soon as possible. Nearly two decades is enough!!
To be fair it suited me down there, hardly anyone speaks to you so I was left in peace most places I went to.
Your underground KCOM feed will be an armoured cable buried directly in the ground. There is no underground duct to your property so a fibre cable cannot be pushed through it hence the overhead feed. Outside of Hull 95% of KCOM customers are fed underground.
It is unsightly, and unnecessary. Yes we've had telegraph poles for years, they're unsightly too! I live in a fairly rural area, there's telegraph poles and pylons all over the place, they're horrible.
No, because it'd be a bit dumb putting wind turbines underground, and nobody I've heard of is proposing putting wind wind turbines on the pavement outside people's houses.
That's a matter of opinion though isn't it. And what's that got to do with putting poles outside people's houses in Hedon?
That seems logical We haven’t had a pole put in front of house (I might join the Hedon Facebook group to brag !) but we have had a small black cover on the pavement (few inches) There’s loads of them and I assumed they’d been out where it looked like running it underground might be relatively easy? Or maybe it’s something else?
So what's your stance on mobile phone towers? Presuming you use a mobile phone I guess you are in favour of them so you can get a signal? Where do you propose they go?
Same as opinions about telegraph poles. A matter of opinion. Though I have yet to meet a person who thinks wind turbines improve the view along the coast. Nimbyism everywhere.
Mobile phone towers to be in elevated places where they offer maximum coverage. Not on peoples doorsteps on residential estates.
