Being a veggie I'm not sure, but me mam gets them from Penshaw Farm Shop at the foot of Penshaw Hill. Don't think I've seen a proper butchers in the town for years. There's a Dewhurst in Jacky Whites Market but I doubt they would have them. Maybe Grangetown, sure there was a decent butcher there but that was years ago so might not be there anymore.
Cheers lads, will give it a try, such a shame. there used to be loads, now its supermarkets or some sort of pie shop
Not in Sunderland but Block and Bottle in Heaton Newcastle are the best I have come across. Probably too far to go sorry I couldn’t be more help.
There are still a few around but don't think there are any in town centre. George Pickings in East Boldon has been going for years and is very popular so may be worth a try.
Not sure what it is called but there is a good butchers in centre of Whitburn village, next to the crossing
I'm very fortunate to have a proper butchers in my village (wingate) does some beautiful meat and also a deli section with proper home made plate pies
Big shout out for Angus in Seaham - been a family business for years , also have a smashing deli in the town where people travel miles to for their pies .
Robinson’s ? Have yet to taste better steak, mince pies, sausage rolls, quiche anywhere in the country…frigging gorgeous
They also do great craft beer as well. Just been away for a week in Scotland , in Angus and every small town had at least one local butcher and a baker and local family hardware stores. No chains, it felt so good, how it should be.
The one at Penshaw is really good mind. Reading the thread while tucking into this beauty direct from Melton Mowbray. Superb.
I only go in for my bait at work but the meat on offer looks lovely at McMurchies in Hetton. Their peppered steak pasties are gorgeous.
