Being a veggie I'm not sure, but me mam gets them from Penshaw Farm Shop at the foot of Penshaw Hill. Don't think I've seen a proper butchers in the town for years.

There's a Dewhurst in Jacky Whites Market but I doubt they would have them. Maybe Grangetown, sure there was a decent butcher there but that was years ago so might not be there anymore.

There are still a few around but don't think there are any in town centre.
George Pickings in East Boldon has been going for years and is very popular so may be worth a try.

They also do great craft beer as well.

Just been away for a week in Scotland , in Angus and every small town had at least one local butcher and a baker and local family hardware stores. No chains, it felt so good, how it should be.

The one at Penshaw is really good mind.

Reading the thread while tucking into this beauty direct from Melton Mowbray. Superb.

I only go in for my bait at work but the meat on offer looks lovely at McMurchies in Hetton.

Their peppered steak pasties are gorgeous.
