Demba Ba.

How many goals can we see him getting this season?

I absolutely love what I've seen of him so far and couldn't stand it when people were kicking off when he had a few dodgy games at the start of the season, hes obviously a great finisher but he has so much to his game that makes him great, I love how he drops deep to collect the ball if we're being over ran, I love how hes two footed and he really does have lightning quick pace at times, best striker we've had since Shearer from what I've seen so far and I really really hope he can stay fit.

Seems to have the right attitude aswell, seems really down to earth and has a real hunger to play and to help the team, couple of videos of him on youtube that I enjoyed:

Not frightened to put his head to the ball when some others might shirk from it either.

 

Somewhere between 15-20 if he stays injury free.

Best should get around 12 goals i would imagine, but with more assists. Best has only scored 3, but he's contributed to the team.

We should have been 4-0 up against Wolves, great cross in from Best, Jonas somehow didn't score, he set up Ba with a decent through ball, but Ba missed his chance.

@ AB, Yeah thats definitely true, to be honest I was just discussing it with a mate and I was just saying that I dont think theres really any holes in his game at all, I cant really think of anything he cant do well, he doesnt think he can do a job as a target man, lone striker but I think he can do a job anywhere up front.

@ HMT, Agree with the prediction about Ba but cant see Best getting much more than about 7-8 goals, hes just not prolific enough I dont think, which sounds daft considering his impressive goal tally for us but he squanders too many chances, hes valuable to the team though because of his work rate and the fact that he can get assists and links up very well with Demba.

 

That's the thing with partnerships, usually one striker scores a hatfull whilst the other gets a fraction of that but assists in their partner's goals. Look at Shearer's successful partnerships over the years for clubs and England. He always scored the large majority of goals due to his partner's work rate.

 

I hope once we sign Maiga(if), then he and Ba can have a partnership just like Maiga did with Ideye Brown.

I can see Ba getting 15+ if he can avoid injury.

As for Best getting 12? If he breaks double figures then he's had a good season but I can't see him doing that because Ba is the scorer in thier partnership.

I think it depends on how quickly he slots back into the team after missing upto a month for the CAN, that and if he avoids injury he could get 15+ goals, which will be a great return for a free transfer.

 

15 would be very realistic, except that he has 8 already. This season I would think 20 or thereabouts would be realistic.

 

Don't forget he could miss upto a month in January for the African Nations Cup, and is bound to miss one or two games through injury/suspension.

 

15 for me which will have exceeded expectations, particularly after his less than inspiring start. I'm pleased everyone stuck with him (I was beginning to worry I won't lie). I kept saying he'll be fine once fit but truth be told I was beginning to think I was just doing my usual blind "I'll have nowt said about those in B&W except Shola who is indefensible!" His all round game has improved as time has gone on. He is never going to look like a technically gifted cultured striker. He is quite robotic, but he is very effective and very strong. With Besty I think he has just hit the inevitable dry patch. He might get around 12 which is fine. His all round game improvements and unselfishness has been a complete turnaround in his time here. I know some have mooted droppping him at present but for me, despite the lack of goals, his general play and workrate has been first class.

I think it's also worth remembering that Best is very likely to lose him place to Ben Arfa this season, but he could probably provide more assists than Best for Ba.

 

Another question, if Ba did score 20 goals, would you give him the number 9 shirt?

 

Ba has been an awesome signing...He didn't get the headlines 'cause he was free, but that probably relieved a bit of pressure (as opposed to £10m price tag and the No.9 shirt...)

I don't see why Best can't get 10+ he's got almost a 2/3rds of the season to go and is almost a 3rd of the way there...He's come very close quite a few times and Pardew said he is the best natural finisher.

I think that if we lose him from the line up we'll lose a lot overall. He can take the ball down better than anyone in our team which has been vitally important in our build up play and also relieving pressure form the defence!

 

He doesn't really mate, he's only missed 2 chances so far that he probably should have done better on, and both of those were in the Blackburn game.

 

At the start of the season it was Best scoring and not Ba. Ba came into form and Best stopped. Lets hope when Ba is away for international/hits a dry patch Best comes back into form.
