Match Day Thread versus Blackburn Rovers

I keep trying to think up things that have happened historically which means we owe the opposition a kicking or a hiding. This one always sticks in my mind. The last Saturday of the season in League 2 (second tier in those days) May 1992. I missed the game because we had booked a holiday to Butlins with the kids which meant getting there that day. All afternoon whilst doing the travel bit and check in I wondered what the result was or how the game was going because defeat would leave us in the mire for the drop. Blackburn on the other hand would go the other way. Eventually having got a bag of chips for the kids and into the Challet I wangled 15 minutes to go to the Bookies on the camp to see if I could find the result. It was about 5 15pm by then. I couldn't see any results anywhere so asked the bloke behind the counter. He duly pulled out a big sheet of paper and asked which result I wanted. Argyle I said eagerly. They lost, Speedie got a hattrick and they have been relegated he cheerfully told me. Great start to the week that was.

So for the only reason that they ruined my week at Butlins in 1992 I think they deserve a kicking and a beating soundly. Don't care if they did score 8 tonight. That was against the Yorkshire 9th tier 11. We can do this an avenge me.

What a strange game this was. We scored 3 and they scored none. How? I ask because I am nowhere near to understanding the answer. First thing to say is that on the run of play there is not a chance in hell we were 3 goals better than them. However, there is another side to it. When we got to the Club House having done a Safari treck around Central Park to get there, my son switched on his phone to look at the stats. His question to me was "how many shots do you think they had". My answer was over 20 at least. His next one was "how many shots do you think we had". My answer was about a dozen or so. He then shokced me with the beeb stats being they infact did have 20 but we had 23. They had 5 on target and we had 8. I have got to say it did not look like that live. They squandered so many chances, and not just decent ones but gilt edged chances at that. How they didn;';t score will remain a mystery to most in the ground. Joe is right. It was end to end for most of the game and even when leading by two Argyle did not sit back and try to defend it. If they did they didn't do it very well. It was a bloody good watch and would have been even better for the neutral. I honestly don't know what to make of it today but am overjoyed with the actual result.

I don't agree we were faster and more agile notdistant. I thought they were fast enough and in a lot of cases a fraction of a yard faster than we were. They were agile in that they found space all the time and mostly it was acres of it. Their No.10 looked like he had a rocket inserted in his nether regions the pace he got to. I do agree though that to pick a MOM out of today would be really difficult.

That is quite cute isn't it. The man clearly embrasses where he is living and working which shows a happy bunny. He was quite good on Saturday as well.

It's easy to get confused with Argyle.....
