Swansea v Bristol City Competition - Sky Bet Championship Venue - Swansea.com Stadium Date - 2 September 2023 Kick off - 12:30pm Following their 2nd Round Carabao Cup defeat at the hands of Premier League Bournemouth, next up for Michael Duff’s Swansea squad is a home match against Bristol City. On Tuesday evening, Ryan Christie's stoppage-time goal gave Bournemouth their first win under boss Andoni Iraola against Swansea City. Captain Matt Grimes had given the Swans a half-time lead from the penalty spot but Bournemouth hit back with goals by David Brooks and Hamed Traore. Jamie Paterson's equaliser nearly took the EFL Cup tie to a penalty shoot-out, but Christie, set up by fellow substitute Justin Kluivert, netted in the first minute of stoppage time to send the Cherries into round three, and leave the Swans winless in 4 games (West Brom, Coventry, Preston and now Bournemouth). The same evening as the Swans were losing to the Cherries, Norwich were booking their place in round three of the EFL Cup by edging-past Bristol City at Ashton Gate. Liam Gibbs had already thumped the bar for the visitors when Przemyslaw Płacheta spun in the box and fired into the corner to put the Canaries ahead early in the second half. The visitors were unable to convert any further chances allowing the Robins to pile on late pressure but the Canaries stood firm to progress. The Swans first played the Robins in October 1922, and in the 77 matches played to date, the Swans have won 24, lost 30 and drawn 23. In the corresponding fixture last season the Swans ran out 2-0 winners - a result that kick started the Swans’ late (albeit unsuccessful) run for a Play-Off place, having won only 3 out of the previous 21 Championship matches: Oliver Langford will be the referee on Saturday. It will be the first time the official from the west Midlands has travelled to SA1 this season, having taken charge of home games against Queens Park Rangers, Burnley and Preston North End last season. Having been refereeing since 1995, Langford was promoted to the List of Referees in 2008. When Select Group 2 was introduced by PGMOL ahead of the 2016-17 season, he was one of 18 referees added to that list. He has taken charge of two play-off semi-finals and the 2017 FA Youth Cup final. Despite not being named a Select Group Official, he is VAR trained and can be part of the officiating team at the top level. The match will mark the 13th time Langford has overseen a Swans game with all of those games coming in the Championship. On Saturday, he will be assisted by Hristo Karaivanov and George Byrne, while Stephen Parkinson is the fourth official. After a disappointing start to the Championship season, Michael Duff will be keen to record his first Championship win in charge of the Swans. However, I think that the Robins will be a hard nut to crack, and that the teams will play out a 1-1 draw.
Afternoon guys going to be a interesting one this neither of us have started particularly well -We have played far better away at Millwall and Hull than the two home games against Preston and Birmingham. For me this could go either way -however the pundits have it down as a score draw 1-1 the majority say. We are struggling with goals so far which is costing us big time so far-plenty of play but no end product. I would take a draw as it stands-three points would be nice but a loss could easily happen.
seeing us score two would be great seeing as we can only muster one shot on target in our first few games, although we had 5 against Hull so who knows lol.
So we’re half way to the “let’s see where we are after 10 games” opinions. We are relegation fodder this season - new loans or not. Very worrying - we will get beaten next week as well.
I thought it was a 3 o'clock kick off Sounds like I only missed another frustrating game. Starting to worry but not panicking. Until the next game, that is
I told my youngest son yesterday we got a cat's chance in hell of winning this game, he ran out to the garden today when the swans went one up, and shouted Swans scored, I said calm down that won't last long!..........
Our coaching team is ****, still bloody crap at the back, this season doesn't look to be shaping up well at all, I know it's just 5 games in, but our football is duff!.............
