Taken in isolation, you are absolutely spot on. But selling him without bringing in a replacement (or two - as his replacement is crocked) will be a huge dent in our promotion hopes, with a very difficult run of fixtures coming up. Same with Tella going. Those are two players out of the squad which were guaranteed to get goals at this level. It’s all about how we replace them now
Stewart will get goals at this level. Admittedly we need another striker as he's out injured but I'm quite relaxed about it TBH.
Stewart is an excellent player but is stepping up in signing for us, and will probably not be fit until November. He won't be expecting to come in and be an automatic pick and I'd be amazed if he's the guy we are pinning our hopes on to score the goals needed for promotion. If, as reported, we are losing Che (and less so Ballard) it points to someone coming in who will and can demand playing time. An Ings type on loan maybe? We could even offer someone like Broja a loan until January and it would put us in decent shape. Van Hooijdonk seems to have a lot of suitors so I hope there are irons in fires. I'm guessing, naturally.
Did you watch them last season? Not good enough on the pitch, but somehow think they are too good for us… and also not good enough for clubs to part with cold hard cash. Dear lord, may we never have such a pathetic collection of ‘goalscorers’ ever again.
People aren’t disappointed because of how he’s performed in his time here, they’re disappointed because this is his level and he would have easily scored 20+ goals had he stayed.
Tony Mowbray said he was going to play Stewart in a behind closed doors friendly during the international break. He'll be fit by the middle of October if all goes well.
We could look to the youth team, they have a promising young striker who scores goal ... oh, as you were.
