I can’t see us spending £7m that up until the Sargent injury we wouldn’t have been thinking of spending.
    Loan with an option maybe?

I think he would be a great idea in loan if he fits the profile, which most are suggesting he would. Preston fans were very keen to get him back this season.

I find NCFC spending a reported £7m on Tom Cannon hard to believe. There must be a player going out of CR. Omo is touted as being that player but rumours are hard to come by recently.

Cannon is valued at £5m on TransferMarkt, so at 20, £7m would seem to be a bargain.

I'd be surprised if they let him go - they can't score for toffee this season so far

I think you missed the word 'if' in my post Robbie. This window has been one of the best I can remember in 50 years of following City. I just hope that isn't undermined by late failures. It was a good sign that Webber responded immediately after the Huddersfield game, checking on Sargent's injury, so I'm hopeful that he will come up with some solution.

They've just signed two first team strikers I think, so he's been pushed down the pecking order.

I think this is the most interesting bit of it? That price feels pretty fair. For a player of that age, with his record last season, it's not a crazy amount of money. Someone is going to get a decent deal. Even if he flops, in two years time he'll still go for a few mil. At that price, it's high upside and relatively low risk for a transfer.

And from an NCFC perspective, the player makes sense. As we saw on Tuesday, we fundamentally can't manage the workload of our 2 fit strikers and play a two striker system each game, and even with Sargent fit a striker is helpful.

Barnes needs his minutes managing, and over the next two years things won't improve on that front. Impressive as he's been, we don't want to be relying on him for anything after this contract expires.

Idah seems to struggle with 90 mins too, and it's not that long ago there were reports that his body fundamentally couldn't handle a heavy workload. His injury record isn't stellar.

Sargent also has injury issues, and based on what we've seen in glimpses this season, would you be surprised if he moves on within 18 months?

Could we afford £7m? It doesn't fit with the pattern of our transfers thus far, but I don't think it's impossible to structure a deal that works for us, and Omobamidele being sold would certainly make life easier.

If we sold Omobamidele for £10m, sign Cannon for £7m and get a season loan for Ben Godfrey (or another left CB), I think we're in a stronger position than we are now?

Agree with all of that. We did get £9m rising to £12m for Aarons after all our other new players except for Forshaw, who only cost a signing on fee. We must have a net reduction in salaries overall from high earners like Pukki, Aarons, Dowell, Hayden, McGovern and Marquinhos leaving. A loan with a commitment to buy for £7m if we are promoted would be a reasonable deal for Cannon.

Quite right Canario and Tzolis is probably on a decent salary as well. My guess is that senior players like Barnes, Duffy and Stacey probably signed on for a lower salary to gain longer contracts.

No, I didn't miss the "if". I was saying that even if we didn't sign a striker and a CB, "complacency" would be the last accusation any reasonable person could level at the club. There are many reasons why we might fail to bring any more players in, but not a shred of justification for saying that "complacency" might be one of them.

Interesting if it happens. Ogwuru will turn 19 next week but he's still raw and a bit of a gamble. The source is Peter O'Rourke (again) so a pinch of salt may be required. According to FLW, "It appears that his most natural position is through the middle, but he is also able to play on the left and right wing."

This is the Pinkun take on it:

"Norwich are known to be in the market for a striker, but it’s unclear whether Ogwuru would compete for a first-team place or join Alan Neilson’s under-21s."

And there's the rub. Cannon knows the league and scored 8 goals in 20 games for Preston last year and would be far more ready to slot in now but it really depends most on who would best slot into Wagner's tactical approach. Getting both in would be ideal.

If it is Lowe, then Cannon must be considered too expensive. Lowe is more of a WR who can also play as a striker. At 29, he's experienced but not exactly what we need. On loan to QPR last season he scored 3 goals in 20 appearances.

In another development, Omobamidele has been omitted from the Ireland squad while Duffy has been called up.
