Yours is different, no numbers. Need to be more observant if you are a mod or you might mis things! No need to thank me
Sure I heard Neville's voice break when Darwin's second went in. Notice he didn't bother turning up to speak to the panel after the game following his 'Carra screeching" comments.
Hmm. If that was the other way around I'd be aghast that the opposition player wasn't sent off. Granted, the first yellow was farcical, but all the players have been told the new rules. I too would be exasperated if I was fouled like that and a deaf, dumb, and blind ref gave nothing - but they know the rules on dissent now. That said, because he never sent off Trent he sends off Virgil (maybe fairly) and, more importantly, allows Newcastle to get away with a foul a minute, especially Foulinton.
I still can't believe what happened yesterday. Absolutely buzzing for the three points but more so for Darwin. My thoughts on the game: - the result shouldn't mask the performance. this was another awful performance which lacked any real structure off the ball, and very erratic build up play - Gakpo is a passenger and has been this season - Gomez was really good - Trent and Robbo used to be real outlets for us but all they do now is just give the ball away. Trent really needs a rocket up the backside because this is unacceptable. Stop with this hybrid nonsense and either commit him to being a proper mid or stay at RB - Give Darwin a run of games as a proper 9 - not as a false 9 or some other bullsh*t which takes him away from the box. He is not a Bobby replacement, he's not a false 9. Ljinders needs to start playing to Darwin's strengths - 7 points out 9 which includes two very tricky away games - I'll take that!
Oh and special shout to Dom - what a player. He won 9/20 duels yesterday - the percentage isn't great but the volume of duels is insane for a midfielder. With a proper DM in place (and with 11 men on the pitch), I would expect the % to improve.
We've no chance of winning the title this year, don't worry not getting overinflated... but... It's moments like that, winning games even when playing bad that wins titles. In our case this year, it's moments like that which potentially bring us back into the champions league.
Did we play bad? I thought we played well. Newcastle scored from an individual error. Other than that they had a good shot from Almiron that Ali saved and then they hit the post late on. Otherwise they barely threatened us. We kept them at an arms length even with 10
Honestly, I only watched the highlights because full game wasn't available to me... I get to watch it this evening instead. From the highlights it looked like we were totally dominated other than Darwin's two goals... But I haven't seen the full match yet. Certainly was a lot of moaning on here.... lol... But If you say we played well, I'll trust you... ... For now
We played well considering the scenario. Down to 10 men, we sat back, defended the box. Part of it was maybe Newcastle being pedestrian. They obviously dominated the ball but don’t feel they really created any clear cut chances. Obviously wouldn’t say we played well if we had 11 and woukdnt want us playing like that every week but we put a shift in and then suckered them late on. Was almost a perfect display when down to 10 men, especially when already 1-0 down.
Shout out to Quansah, another scouser in the team, been at the club since he was 5. Looks the part, very skilful and cool as a cucumber, just what you need from a defender.
We really needed to hang in there after their goal and the red card, but you're right, even though their possession % was high Ali wasn't particularly busy. I thought the subs were well used at the right time against a tiring Newcastle, and the two finishes were sublime. What a buzz........big 3 points........but its the self belief that comes out of a game like that......priceless
We're starting the season with a long string of mostly expected-upper-table teams. So far, the results have been pretty decent, if we get through this starting string of games relatively unscathed the season might not be nearly as bad as many seem to fear. Although, would always hope for three wins on the trot to start the campaign, realistically in a campaign that started with two away games against Chelsea and Newcastle in the first three, to have 7 points is a solid start. Like us, Newcastle has a relatively hard start, and they've already dropped 6 points. I think they're a good benchmark as they're who we hope to replace in the top four, so four points out of nine better than them after three games is a very decent start.
They work well as a team rather than having star individuals, they'll be up there imo. Whether they actually get top four again (especially with European football too) I don't know
As Carra said, WE should be the team challenging City. If we had less mingy owners we would be - but I'll leave it a couple of days before I start whining about FSG again.
