Good Morning, it's Monday 28th August, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road

Leeds smash four past Ipswich ending 21 game run

Leeds ended Ipswich Town's 21 game unbeaten run at the weekend as Daniel Farke's men came from behind to fire four past the Tractor boys.

His decision to throw Sinisterra and Gnonto straight back into the starting line-up, alongside new arrival Joel Piroe (after just one training session) paid dividends, as they found themselves 3-1 up after less than 20 minutes.

Customary to proceedings this season, Leeds conceded first. Jackson broke Leeds offside trap (as they would all afternoon), leaving Ayling trailing in his midst. He squared a low hard ball across Leeds' six yard box, where Rodon (one of three Leeds defenders in the box) inadvertently sliced the ball into his own net.

Leeds response was instantaneous. Rutter showed devastating strength and close ball control, to dance his way past five blue shirts before rolling the ball past Hladky to equalise. Just four minutes later, the Whites were ahead.

Sinisterra linked up well with Byram, before the former Norwich man delivered a long in-swinging ball. Gnonto, bravely came charging in at the back post to give Leeds the lead, much to the dismay of home crowd.

They extended their lead further on nineteen minutes. Sinisterra cut inside, before firing a rasping shot at goal. Hladky could only parry the ball, straight into the path of Joel Piroe; he doesn't miss from there.

The Tractor boys reduced the deficit deep into first half injury time. Drameh's sloppy back pass caused panic in the Leeds ranks. Roden had a chance to hack the ball clear, but left it to Meslier who had charged from his six yard box. Jackson beat the French shot-stopper to the ball, before cutting it back into the danger zone. Broadhead and Ampadu challenged for the loose ball, which ended up in the back of the net off the Leeds midfielder.

Leeds had to batten down the hatches in the second half, as the home side laid siege on Meslier's goalmouth. They soaked up the pressure for thirty minutes, before delivery a knock out punch that would floor their opponents.

Shackleton sliced the Tractor boy's defence wide open with a threaded ball wide on the left, into the feet of Sinisterra. The Colombian took a touch, steadied himself, before firing across goal to extend their advantage once again.

Leeds would gift Ipswich a late consolation in the dying seconds, but by then the damage was done. Not many Championship outfits will get much change from their visits to Portman Road this season, but Leeds were well worth their three points, and will hopefully kick-start their campaign up the table.

    Leeds continue to monitor Antonio

It is rumoured that Leeds target Michail Antonio has told West Ham Manager David Moyes that he may quit if they sign Sevilla forward Youssef En-Nesyri.

He has fallen down the pecking order at the London Stadium, prompting speculation that his eight year tenure in East London may be coming to an end. Media reports suggest Leeds have shown a great deal of interest in the 33yo this Summer, and as the transfer window reaches it's finale, Moyes has important decisions to make.

It looks like the arrival of Joel Piroe will pay dividends, so, do Leeds need another top marksman? Joe Gelhardt and Mateo Joseph still have big question marks by their names, whilst Bamford continuous to spend more time with the physio, than on the pitch.

    Leeds look to strengthen midfield

German media outlet BILD are reporting that Leeds have submitted a bid to bring Japan international Ao Tanaka to Elland Road.

The defensive midfielder currently applies his trade with Bundesliga 2 outfit Fortuna Dusseldorf. He only joined last season (for €1m), after a successful loan the year before.

The 24yo was subject to a €2.7m bid from Stuttgart, but have now abandoned their bid. He was also linked with a move to West Ham earlier this Summer. Tanaka would provide competition for places in an area Leeds need to strengthen.

The news comes as Leeds make a formal offer for Rangers midfielder Glen Kamara, believed to be around the £5m mark. It's looks increasingly likely that the no nonsense 27yo will become a Leeds player in the coming days. His high work rate, and crunching tackles will certainly endear him to the Elland Road faithful.

Too many stories about incomings for me. I believe Kamara will happen and I also believe Lewis O’Brian will come this week on loan with a buy clause. LB needed too

What a great feeling to get to a Monday morning and still be on a high from a very good win away from home.

One swallow doesn't make a summer I know and we are very much a work in progress but the one big thing that was missing i.e. a proper striker who knows how to score goals was finally resolved.

If they can sort out the defence before the window shuts then who knows what may be in store for us this season. All I can say is I feel more confident of being at least contenders for top 6.

    Morning all

We're in for an interesting week IMO. This will either make our season or it will be a bust. Let's see what the overloads do.

As much as I will be looking at players coming in I think we need to see who goes as Lyon wants Rutter.

    Morning all,

I don't know anything about Tanaka but if ever a signing screamed we found this player on Ortas left behind laptop this is the one.

Save the money and put it towards O Brien and Kamara.

    Good morning all
Piroe what a great signing, the moment he put pen to paper seems to have given the whole club a lift & the fans the feel good factor, which manifested itself on the pitch. Farke realy seems to know what he is doing, despite the monumental task of bringing us from an all time low the likes we have not seen in many a year. We at last seem to be making big strides forward which i for one had my doubts about only a few weeks ago.
Hope the progress continues with Farke & the 49'rs building a competitive squad capable of not only promotion, but also containing the bones of a capable premier league squad, most importantly of all, we now have hope.

That's exactly what I wanted to see from Rutter. We all heard about his stats taking on his man and it was good to finally see it

At last the final week of unrest, you feel we’re looking to bring 2-3 players in. If we gave in to the pressure and offers for Gnonto and Sinisterra we’d need 5 new faces, that’s not happening.

New attacker in then maybe Joffy will go out, Hjelde and Drameh might also go if we find a new RB/LB

I think using Firpo and having Byram as the makeshift between both sides was the plan, Byram being injured might throw a spanner in that one.

Farkes decision making and decisiveness, the board backing him with the likes of Ampadu and Piroe I’ve total faith in the week ahead that the club will make the right decisions if they’re doable. By that I mean you can’t plan for players changing their minds at the last minute

Supposedly Tanaka is meant to be good. He was apart of the Japanese World Cup Squad that went to Qatar and he scored a wonder goal against Spain.

Well final week of the window whats going to happen.
Deffo going to be some more bids on our players we also have to recruit at the sametime.
As of now going off proper positions this is what we have none of these square pegs in round holes filled gaps.

    Keepers (3)
Meslier-Darlow-Klaesson I think we can safely say our keeper allocation is sorted barring any outgoings.
    LeftBacks (2)
Firpo-Hjlde Struggling here Firpo isn't fit and Hjede LB or CB isn't a first 11 player at present.
    RightBacks (4)
Ayling-Drameh-Byram-(Dallas) plenty bodies here but Ayling is on the downgrade. Drameh looks to want away and the other are 2 injured with Dallas looking still long term.
    CBacks (4)
Strujik-Rodon-Cresswell-Cooper I'd say at the moment that's a nice group of 4 for this league problem is keeping them fit especially Coops.
    DMidield (1)
Ampadu We need a extra body here for sure
    CMidield (4)
Gray-Shackleton-Gyabi- Bate That's a very raw Midfield 1 or 2 bodies in there for sure defo need some quality and experience
    AMidfield (1)
Greenwood Defo need someone to fill the hole Greenwood is not the answer.
    LWing (3)
Sinisterra-Gnonto-James We are blessed on the left if we keep everyone via the window.
    RWing (3)
Summerville-Poveda-Costa. Again good options but one is deffo going out Costa and Poveda has question marks.
    Forwards (5)
Piroe-Bamford-Rutter-Gelhardt-Joseph. now we got our goalscorer Piroe I'm happy with that bunch.

    So whats going to happen?
    Goalkeepers:
    we are sorted.
    Defence :
A LB is really needed. It's one of our main weakness RB might not look to bad when people are fit Byram,Ayling I personally think Drameh is gone. Centrally I'm happy we also have Ayling or Hjlde to fill gaps when our main four are out.
    Midfield:
Short at DM could this be filled by Glen Kamara from Rangers in the upcoming days.
Deffo think we are short in the middle very raw bunch of kids 1 or 2 signings needed.
As in the hole plenty have tried but be nice to get someone who can actually play the role. Nadiem Amiri is being chased if rumours true and the one on this thread above.
    Wingers:
Leftside Again strong if we hold onto Summerville can swap these wingers about.
Right side we are very strong if we hold on to everyone prob best in the division. seem to be rumours we are chasing Paintsill but surely we are overun on the right maybe he's the man in the pipeline if someone goes.
    Forwards:
I'm happy we what we have now.

So in my view we really need some added depth and quality in the Midfield section from DM to AM at least 2-3 bodies in there.
We are gagging for a LB and have been for a while. I also wouldn't be surprised to see a RB come in.
Wide and Up top If we keep everyone now at the club I'm happy to go with what we have.
    As on outs and loans.
I'd keep Shacks he's a good utility player Drameh,Hjlede are the question marks of the squad.
Poveda-Bate-Gyabi have loans written all over them if new players come in which is expected.

    What you guys think?

I think we need a left sided CB in, after Emu's scathing summary of Struijk I watched him more closely on Saturday and I wasn't impressed especially the number of times he let his man get goal side of him and he's not got the pace to recover, good enough for the bench but we need better as a starter.

If I look at the squad I would say there is a bunch of players who need moving on.

    • Cooper
    • Bamford
    • Struijk
    • Hjelde
    • Firpo
    • Bate

    In
    • LB
    • DM

I’d like a replacement for Gray as we can’t admfford to burn him out, I’d also be happy for a replacement for Ampadu as we can use Ampadu as a CB.

    My order of preference (assuming no first team outgoings) would be;

    1) CM
    2) LB
    3) RB
    4) CM

It depends on why Farke signed Ampadu, I think he was signed as a CB and is being used in the middle due to Adams and the shortage we have

If this is the case 2 x CM tops for me

Seems there are problems getting some deals over the line as players want more money to drop down to the Championship. Ameri isn’t going to happen now and Paintsil is arguing over loyalty payments from Genk. Lets remember that both clubs have agreed deals with Leeds and terms with both players. I believe we have moved on hence why Kamara and O’Brian are seen as goers.

On Tanaka. I couldn't place him in my mind. A bit of googling and I do remember him playing against Germany in the World Cup. Energetic midfielder, works hard, good engine, fires in to tackles and basically a bundle of energy ratting about upsetting the opposition. He's another Shackleton. Squad player. We can get better. There is an argument for tapping in to the Japanese market for the measly £2.5 million needed to buy him. Would we get that back from merch?

On Kamara, meh, he's not great but he'd lighten the load on Gray and possibly cover Ampadu if he got injured. Championship player at best. He wouldn't survive in the Premier League. Fans would like him, gets stuck in and his passing isn't bad. Might be over paying at £5 million.

Can't understand the Paintsil signing. He's not as good as Sinisterra, Summerville or Gnonto. He'd probably be behind those three and possibly Rutter. Considering James has prolly been our most consistent player thus far I don't see the point.

Buy a ****ing left footed ****ing left back and go get O'Brien on loan for the season. That's a must.

Anything after that is a bonus.

Play Cresswell with Rodon. Ditch Meslier. Win the league.

Struijk is fine for this League and was much better with Byram and/or Shackleton next to him.

Don't know if you watched any PL yesterday but plenty of mistakes from defenders at Newcastle and Liverpool too. Walker for Man City also which very nearly cost them 2 points.

Maybe time for fans to accept that at best Cresswell has a 50/50 chance of making it with us and a lot of that depends on which division we're in.

As far as PL goes he's miles off at the moment.
