Rock bottom it would appear <laugh> Fair Play League

It's either because they didn't apply to enter UEFA competitions or it got rejected because they were in administration. Can't quite remember which now.

    Cheers Alfie <ok>

I may be wrong but im pretty sure that the 'runner up' in the cup thing was stopped. In fact i think it was us who the last team to benefit from it in the CWC. If you dont win it you dont get into europe and it instead goes to the league.

    That's actually quite alarming.

Tiote 1 yellow away from another ban (2 match I think)
    Nolan 2 away
    Joey 3 away

Hardly surprising when referee's book them for blowing on people, referees like the guy at Blackburn, who should have just put a Blackburn shirt on he was that biased.

Bring back the Intertoto says I! For all the jokes about it being a daft cup, its still a qualifying route into the Europa League. It says a lot for our season when we were all happy with finishing seventeenth, and now we're fairly realistically in a 3 horse race with Bolton and the mackems for 7th. We love you Mike!

The Intertoto seemed like a competition created by someone who was drunk at the time <laugh>

I'm sure the year we 'won' the intertoto cup, were there not countless other 'winners' who also qualified for europe?

The actual 'Winner' was the team that lasted longest in the Europa cup (or whatever it was at the time), and that was us!! :emoticon-0137-clapp

    Yep.

I've had a great idea! A competition with 3 finals and 3 victors going into Europe but in the end there is only one winner... Pass us that reefer again will you?

Fairly certain we won it because we were the last team left in the UEFA who qualified through the InterToto when Bordeaux(i think) were knocked out.

We were also the last ever winners, sadly the Intertoto cup is no more. It was an odd concept though, you could effectively get into Europe by just applying to.

Yeah, I think 2 or 3 other teams won a final game in the Intertoto too, but, like Alfie, said, we won it because we were the only remaining team left in the UEFA Cup who qualified through Intertoto.

I always thought that was the ultimate issue with it, the fact that the Intertoto 'Cup' was in fact a Plaque. Its like finding out the FA Vase is a fruitbowl...

Please bear with me on this, but let's assume that the current league table is how it finishes at the end of the season with us in ninth position. Man Utd, Arsenal, Man City and Spurs qualify for the Champions League and Chelsea take the Europa League place as the fifth placed team. However, if Arsenal win the League Cup then this allows the team finishing in sixth place (Liverpool) to claim a Europa League place. An FA Cup Final between two of the teams finishing in the Champions League places would then give the team finishing seventh (Mackems) in the league a Europa League place - remember we are ninth and now only two places away from European qualification. If Chelsea, heaven forbid, were to win the Champions League then they would qualify for the Champions League as holders meaning that another place may be available in the Europa League based on league position which would be down to eighth (Bolton). Finally, if Liverpool were to be triumphant in the Europa League they would qualify as holders (?) resulting a final Europa League place going to the team finishing in ninth position in the league which of course is Newcastle United.

    Simples.

    My brain hurts!
