Seri Coyle Delap. Called this result before kick off. Bristol city are a decent team and showed it last night. They could have been 3-1 up at half time, so a draw, to me, was a fair result. If I have to be critical I thought we were a bit lightweight in midfield and too slow working the ball out from the back, at times shades of the Donny match and I'm afraid that will not keep the crowds coming back. We looked sharper when Connelly came on and better overall when we went for it in the last ten minutes. Don't know why Delap was taken off when Traore was doing nothing, but, as a game, it was like watching a game of chess at times in the second half. We are work in progress and that is obvious, and we do look better up top than we have have for a couple of seasons. Trouble is, it takes so long to get the ball up there. Good crowd too for a Friday night. Great intimidating atmosphere up to our goal then, like the game, we seemed to run out of enthusiasm. Seven points out of the first four games isn't bad though, because I thought after Donny, we'd by lucky to have any. Have to mention Harry Vaughn's cameo appearance as a late sub. He was like a breath of fresh air last night. Quick, bright, and exciting to watch when on the ball.
Ingram Delap Tufan for the goal A bit deflating, really. Shades of Donny in the Carabao at times, though the spell when we were on top was fabulous. It just didn’t last long enough.
I particularly like Ingram in his Subbuteo crouching goalkeeper pose. He seems to time when he goes into it well, and then has wrists of steel.
Ingram Delap Coyle Thought we played ok in patches, both teams had chances and a draw was probably about right in the end. Other thoughts, I liked the look of Twine, looks good technically and his set piece delivery will give us another weapon. Traore just can't play that wide position. Connolly looked good again when he came on, and just offers something really different to our other forwards. If we can keep him fit and engaged I think he will be a really big player for us this season. I know others are, but just not convinced by Vaughan yet, far too lightweight (he just gets pushed off the ball), not that quick, not seen him beat anyone with trickery/skill. I'm sure there's a player in there, but not convinced he's Championship level just yet.
Tufan - great finish Seri - some quality passes Ingram - some good saves Though Traore should have been hooked at half-time. Vaughan not physically strong enough ATM - needs to bulk up a bit - need better if we are serious about challenging for the top 6 this season. Though Mcloughlin looked nervy all game.
i thought that Vaughan did more with the ball when he got it when he was wide left than Twine did. Yes they both come inside but Vaughan does it with pace and usually creates something. Whereas Twine when he came inside was slow and usually ended up being surrounded by the opposition and it came to nothing. Think Vaughan will be sticking around and not going in loan.
Good points made...If we had a player who could go outside and skin their fb, instead of coming inside, (eg Vaughan) he'd be worth his weight in gold....I'm no Twine expert, but playing him wide left, is to me, a waste of time, (albeit, after one game) he's better going down the centre and playing wall pass and one-twos with Connelly and vice versa to open up a rigid back four. Delap would be much better employed playing wide right and using his pace, wasted down the middle.
Five points for first choice, three for second, one for third. Ingram 117 Coyle 50 Delap 40 Seri 28 Jones 19 Tufan 17 Slater 7 Greaves 5 Five games, five different MOTM. Does that mean we're a team of many talents or just inconsistent?
