If the fans would really be asking for a change of manager after five games, especially in the circumstances, and that change happened because of those results, then we will never, ever get anywhere. I doubt they will actually. Maybe on noisy message boards which are used by a very small percentage of supporters, but not generally I'd say.

A lot is made of how well Brentford are doing, and so it should be. But Thomas Franks won only one of his first ten games in charge. It was a horror start, but the club ignored the noise and benefitted from it.

Relationship has been frosty since the club started looking at potential managers also the manager wanted more experience in the squad to have a go at promotion.

Just by reading your first paragraph tells me how thick some Sunderland supporters are

Interesting to see the rumours about the hierarchy wanting to shift Mowbray keep on surfacing. On a personal level I do not believe it. No offence to anyone who suggests this is the case when I say that, just that I have been around football for too many years to think this happens. If there is some sort of view he isnt the right man from either KLD or Speakman they would just get rid. I am quite confident Mowbray would just walk too if he felt undermined because his stock is sky high after last season and would be in a plumb job by Christmas. I just dont see either side needing to put up with any fundamental disagreements for any length of time. The whole idea is lost on me I am afraid.

A slightly different insight / perspective. An old playing mate of mine is involved in the agent side of football. I coached his lad for a couple of years as well and we got a bit closer again. He gets me all sorts of signed gear from players for fund raising I do and often brings me something from Sunderland when I see him for the odd round of golf. Anyway, he rang me when I was on holiday last week to mention u18s coaching at sunderland. Not for me but there is a lad who has coached with me for the last couple of years who could be a good fit. We got talking about Sunderland generally and he was full of praise for the club and the way it works, based on what he hears rather than very much first hand experience. He says we are seen as a club doing just about the best transfer business outside of the prem, particularly in terms of how we identify players. He says everything about us is deliberate and focussed. Also says the people have very good reputations, from Speakman to Mowbray, and people speak well of them. I know of Mowbrays reputation as a coach and it is really really good. He also mentioned Harvey is really important to us. None of this is that new I suppose, just interesting from someone in the murky world he lives in. I did ask about incomings and he said he had no clue - useless sod <laugh>

I will finish with my own view on why I think Mowbray is a much better fit than some young overseas coach. It is because he knows how to do everything they do, but has the added experience which really is priceless for us and our young squad. All coaching qualifications across europe are aligned. There is no magic formula a young german or italian has that our coaches dont. Klopp apparently invented the high press, which of course is untrue. Many teams have been doing it for years. Mowbray has us doing it when we have the players to do it, like Stewart. Mowbray has experience of all sorts of formations and when to use them. The weakness of younger coaches is their view is often focussed on one formation or way of playing only. Mowbray is a brilliant man manager, see Roberts for that. Young head coaches, in my opinion, arent worldly wise enough to know when an arm round the shoulder is better than a kick up the arse. Mowbray is as technically advanced as any other coach we could possibly attract right now, but he has experience, know how and contacts that many do not. If he ends up leaving in the short term then I can only see it being for results, otherwise I will have to question the footballing nous of those above him. I also hope last season means he has credit in the bank if the next 7 or 8 games are tough results wise. I would say a lot of our young players might have the wind taken out of their sales if he goes. I like him, and I am pretty confident he likes us and the young team he has. Good times will continue I think.

Backs up what I have heard from a couple of sources, but I don't think it's necessarily terminal. I know KS is seen as arrogant and a mate of mine who knows him professionally admits he is "a bit marmite" so not surprised he's not universally liked at the club - not that these scenarios aren't manageable of course.......

Thanks for the info mate. Why did the club start looking at other managers do you think? Was it with a longer term view in mind? And,given the way they're pretty good at keeping things close to their chest, how did that leak itself? Any ideas?

I think it would be harsh to get rid of TM imo.

We are signing youth who have potential but aren’t improving us now and I don’t think another manager coming in will change that. I think he can do the job for us but we need to give him the tools to do so. Wasting what paltry budget we have on teenagers who can’t get a game over the other kids we have on the pitch just seems like chaos.

In theory it should be simple. Once the window for any league shuts then outgoings are stopped as well.

The leagues need to grow some balls

Mowbray is on a short term contract, the recruitment team have had the opportunity to undertake a full review of managers who fit into the model.

By the way I like Mowbray.

Please don't misunderstand me....I wasn't at all suggesting any involvement from you! I've come to know your views have credence....I was merely asking for your take on it all.

Thats not for certain..information coming out of the club and communication you see at the moment..is not great..also the press are aware of issues..which has now been reported..if results dont go our way and we dont get the players Mowbray wants..action will happen i beleive

If Mowbray is unhappy that the club were looking at other coaches, he should remember the circumstances he was appointed in.
