I thought Connolly's second was made easier by their keeper making no effort at all to get into any sort of position to save it. It looked like he was waiting for an offside call or some other divine intervention.
I'm sure I'm in danger of being called patronising or something, but I really do think this narrative is unhelpful. It spreads so easily and always gets likes as people pat each other on the back in agreement that our style of play is wrong and that whenever we win it's because we didn't do it. We're not going to stop trying to play good football starting from the back. It's how we want to play, players are coming here to play in it, we're doing well and it'll only get better as we bring in more quality and balance in terms of personnel. We have to start supporting the team in what they're trying to do.
I have to say Alfie Jones ball for Connolly's 2nd hasn't got the recognition it deserves, it reminded me a bit of Ranocchia ball to Niasse when we beat Liverpool.
He tried a few cute ones over the top in the game, but that one was spectacular. For a centre half he has a real range of passing.
I’ve got friends and family in Bristol, they’ve never felt bad towards our club at all. In our first premier league season everyone I met in Bristol wanted us to do well, as they realised that it could have been them if it wasn’t for a very special goal.
Just watching highlights again. Was looking at Connolly's first as thought it was odd at the time that the Blackburn defenders didn't bother appealing for offside as it must have been close. But with a few pauses it's clear to see that he timed his run to perfection. Was then looking again at Jones's pass for Connolly's second. What a ball. And again, Connolly timing his run to perfection. But what else jumped out was Coyle absolutely busting a gut to get back, culminating in his headed clearance off the line. As good as a goal.
My son and his family live in Bristol, most people I speak to down there are Gas supporters ( B Rovers ). They love Deano for what he did at Wembley.
Been awhile since we’ve had a striker that makes runs like that. Hernandez was probably the last but he rarely got the ball played to him so soon gave up.
Bristol fans were very good. I was waiting for my car when a couple of drunken Bristol fans walked past City coaches mouthing off. They were quickly taken to task by other Bristol fans and told to button it. Thought we’ll of them ever since.
Yeah I had Bristol City fans shaking my hand to congratulate me as we left Wembley. Whilst I wouldn’t have been abusive I’m not sure I’d have been that charitable either!
Alfie actually spotted Aaron starting to make the run and put the ball perfectly over the top. You can see from this click.
I didn’t like the first murmurs of ‘we saw you crying on Wembley Way’ when we played them. As that’s the exact opposite of my experience.
My Cousin is an odd one, he lives in Bristol and is a City fan, but loves live football, so he watches BC most weeks, but when City are at Ashton Gate he goes in the away end.
