Mental. Happy for che and tella to go and be replaced within two weeks, by scouts that have proven to not have a clue how to sign productive attackers. What could go wrong?
Nope. But our trust in players being injured has been a little eroded with some our "injured" crew. Therefore, as I said quite clearly, it is easier to trust the players WHO HAVE SHOWN they want to play here. I probably missed Sulemana's supportive social media posts and reassurances he is up for the Championship scrap?
Why does it have to be an either/or situation? Selling a Championship TOTS player wouldn't make a lot of sense unless RM doesn't rate him but seeing as he has picked him consistantly so far that doesn't appear to be the case.
If Tella was a brand new signing, everyone would think it was incredible we've just signed one of last seasons best Championship players. The fact is, we've acquired that for nothing. To sell him would be insanity in my opinion. The fact people are happy (or willing) to sell him is ... well, I don't understand it.
Maybe Tella doesn't fancy going to a whole different country and learning a new language etc. Also might not be a first teamer there.
I tend to agree- for me Tella flatters to deceive but I’d be a little concerned if we don’t replace him.
1 September comes around, and we'll have achieved our goal of retaining Alcarez. Every other player will have been sold instead though.
What’s with all the people seemingly assuming we won’t replace departing players who have thus far been part of the first team squad ? Or indeed the team? Of course it would be a concern if we aren’t going to but there is precisely zero evidence of that. Honestly there seem to be people who are scared that we will sell KWP, Adams and Tella and replace them with Bree, Mara and Djenepo and then replace those three with people from the youth team and crack on. As if it were that last season in the championship before we went down to league one Do people really think there is some kind of asset strip situation where everything that isn’t nailed down will be sold and then the owners will bounce? Why would they have gone through the difficulties and protracted negotiations to bring in Martin if that was happening? Why would they have spent 10m on Shea Charles? And a long list of other things Tella will go to the bundesliga if he wants to because it doesn’t serve us to force him to stay. There were comments when the Genk winger apparently didn’t want to join us to the effect of “good, we don’t want people who don’t really want to be here”. That should still apply in all cases
People are pragmatic in understanding we can’t force people to stay when top division clubs come in. Not sure how many are truly “happy” about it. And being willing is irrelevant as we don’t get a say
I think the concern for many, certainly me, is that finding players who can instantly come in and score 25+ goals at this level, or who can make an impact in the way Tella did to a dominant Burnley team last season etc is very, very difficult - not least with only 2 weeks of the window left. If we get the right price and a player really wants to go then it's clearly what needs to happen but if both of those things aren't apparent, then assuming any replacement will be as good just because Tella was a little bit underwhelming in scoring 17 goals for the champions last season, or Che misses too many chances as he finnishes as one of the top scorers in the league is a little disingenuous.
Yeah this is what I think most people are concerned about, not that we won’t replace them, just that we will replace them with ****. On paper replacing Tella and Adams is a very hard task as they both have fantastic records in the Championship
100% this. Despite SR's performance last year, they aren't trying to sell off to make money. They really aren't. I know some of the 'less happy' posters on here want it to be true, but it isn't. The fact of the matter is we are now a Championship club and the family silver is unfortunately available at a price - not because SR want to sell the family silver or need the money, but because the family silver has agents and are also humans with aspirations and want to be playing in the Premier league or another European league. Not a lot SR can do, except get a good price for it. I would argue that they have done this so far.
