Sunderland welcome Rotherham to the Stadium of Light in the Championship.
Last time out Sunderland lost to Preston and Rotherham drew with Blackburn.
Sunderland have lost both of their opening games and are 4th from bottom of the Championship.
Sunderland's campaign continues on Saturday with the Millers arriving on Wearside yet to claim their first win of the season while the Black Cats go in search of their first point.
Chris Rigg suffered a concussion injury on Monday and must now follow the FA's concussion protocols which mean he will not be available for the game.
Rotherham lost 4-1 in their opening game of the season at Stoke and drew 2-2 at Home to Blackburn last weekend, a game which Rotherham did not manage to fill their bench.
Midfielder Christ Tiehi should complete his move from Czech outfit Slovan Liberec this week.
Andre Green, Grant Hall and Tom Eaves have additional time to put themselves into contention for the weekend.
Recent signing Green has missed the club's first three games of the campaign with a groin niggle, with Hall having been out with a hamstring concern. Eaves is also yet to feature this season due to a calf issue.
The Millers are definitely without Lee Peltier (calf), who will be out of action for a significant amount of time, while there could be updates regarding Shane Ferguson (hernia) and Jamie Lindsay (Achilles) later this week.
    Tony Mowbray:
"I don't think we were under huge pressure [at Preston]," said Mowbray. "I didn't feel they were going to score. Their corners were really dangerous, but I thought [goalkeeper] Anthony Patterson was good on set-plays.
"I didn't feel vulnerable. In the second half, I genuinely didn't think they could have a shot never mind score a goal, yet we gifted them it. I think you take away the attacking prowess of the team by trying to put another defender in there and shore it up just because we are not scoring goals.
"We are not far away from being pretty good, I think, and somewhere along the line this season that is going to click into place and we're going to be talking about a team that scores in every game and a team that can run away with games and keep scoring."
    Matt Taylor:
"We did not want to play three games (last week), but we had to.
"You never want to put that group out - the (Oli) Rathbone's and (Ben) Wiles's of this world and forget what happened at the end of last season with those two players.
"We are aware that some need a little bit of looking after. No Tuesday game gives us an opportunity, while still speeding up some of the others.
"It's always about the balance. I am aware that some were hit by a three-game week.
"You just hope it's just mental tiredness and a bit of body soreness and nothing long lasting which should take us into the weekend."

    My two pence:
We could do with a win given the last few results, but I think we are getting closer to the way we played last season. Hopefully the luck turns more in our favour.

    I'm going for a 2-0 home win.

You're up early, or is it late ...

... late for me, been away for a few days.

I'm down for this one, can't wait and expecting a win. We have a good team and played some great stuff against Ipswich, it didn't work out but no reason it can't this time.

3-1 for me, Ha'way the Lads!!!

Liking the team RTB. Aggressive, which we have to be at home, and learn to deal with the counter.

is this the game where it starts to click and we hurt the oppo? Let’s hope so

Results against these are very mixed, we seem to win at home and struggle away as do they which tells me this should be 3 points to the lads.
however reality is we need these points to calm everybody down

It's very early in the season but a lot seems to be riding on this but we'll do it HTL.

It's going to click tomorrow, Clarke to bag one early, new striker to get his brace and a stroll through the last 30 minutes playing around Rotherham.

    3-0 to the lads

I've gone 2-1 on this one. I think we should have too much for them.

    Great thread as usual.

Cracking thread as always RTB. Thanks for your efforts. I fancy a win in this game. I think we will get the 3 points which will settle things down and start to build a bit of confidence. Think Rotherham will come to frustrate us and we will have to be patient. A couple of setbacks in my recovery means I'm missing this one as well. So blooming frustrating. 3 points to the lads will cheer me up. Keep the faith lads and lasses.

This is where we kick start the season.

Jack Clarke will be on the score sheet in a 2-1 win to the lads.

We will concede, we always do. It's all about whether we can score 2 goals and win the game
Start fast, score early and we win 3-1

    Concede first and it's a nervy 1-1
