Seriously you think Froch fought both those fights the same way? Froch decided to go toe to toe with Kessler, fight on the inside trade big punches and head hunt. Against Abraham he fought on the outside, used the jab quick combos and hit and moved. Do you really think Froch fought the same in both fights?
He tried to fight on the outside against Kessler as well initially but it didn’t work so he resorted to his usual tactics of putting pressure on his opponent and going forward fighting on the inside, look at the previous video i showed which clearly illustrates this. And showing me a video of Froch vs Abraham will not change my mind that he is one dimensional, Abraham is very average and has been outboxes by other relatively poor fighters. Froch could not do the same against Kessler and went back to his usual approach. Show me an example of him fighting a talented boxer while fighting on the outside because I cant think of any. If he tried that against Ward he would get picked apart. Froch relies on his pressure and chin to win him fights and that is a fact, look at the fights against Taylor where he was pretty much out boxed for most of the fight but managed to win in the end. He has once had success fighting on the outside and his opponent is quiet simply not the calibre of Ward.
The Super 6 on paper looked a great idea. However the reality has been a bit of a damp squib. Unfortunately, boxers pick up injuries, retire/get found out etc and the replacements took the gloss off. There have been some good fights but also some crap ones. I cannot bring myself to put the winner of Ward v Froch an all time great. It's too early by far for Ward to be put on that pedestal, and Froch has been found out. I agree with D4 that he had a slightly different game plan in his last 2 fights, however Froch seems unable to have an effective Plan B in a single fight when it's going wrong. The measure of the greats is what happens when they initially are up against it, but then manage to find a way. Froch is great champion but not a Hall of Famer.
There has not been another Supermiddle in history that have faced the competition that Froch has faced over the last 3-4 years If you think there has been let me know?
Sorry, every fighter in the super 6 has fought the exact same competition that Froch has fought in the last 3 years... it's in the name.
Thats because SuperMiddle weight has not been around as long as Middlweight and the opposition for Supermid is generally far weaker than Middleweight or light heavey. Name me some great supermiddleweight champions? I cant think of many boxers who stayed at that weight, most like the like of Hopkins, Roy Jones whent up to light heavyor stayed as middleweights
Sorry to go off thread.... great to see the boxing one finally starting to take off a bit. D4 must have been chomping at the bit since 606 went!
It wasn't a Round Robin Tournament. Froch as fought Pascal: Former Light-Heavyweight Champion Taylor: Former Middleweight Champion Dirrel: Olympic Bronze medalist Kessler: Former 4 time Super-Middleweight Champion Abraham: Former Middleweight champ Johnson: Former Light-Heavyweight Champ Ward: Curent Super Middleweight Champ. I think all top 5 ranked at Super Middles when Froch fought them
Yeah when I first joined the Boxing Forums where dead, lets hope it starts to pickup a bit more soon, there are a lot of good fights coming up so I can see it getting more lively
We got some good fights coming up. Khan vs Peterson. Froch vs Ward Cotto vs Margarito. Should be good
Taylor was the only one who had real talent out of those fighters but was washed up having lost to pavlik, Kessler had lost to Calzaghe and Ward Abraham is rubbish and lets face it Johnson was past it and Pascal recently got battered by an aging Hopkins. His opponents Bar Ward have all been coming off losses or are past their best.
Sorry D4, I have to agree (not good for debate though!). Even Calzaghe's victory over what was considered by his bashers , an over the hill has been (Hopkins), has actually been given a lot more credit now Hopkins has pretty much cleaned up in Joe's absence.
To be fair Hopkins is arguably one of the best Middleweights ever and never dodges and opponent, the guy practically beat Calzaghe had he thrown a few more punches in that fight. one of my favourite Hopkins fights where the Tarver and Pavlik fights were he was the heavy underdog and came out schooling his opponents
It was a good win for Calzaghe, but Joe didn't have the run of tough opponents Froch had. Calzaghe fought Kessler, Hopkins, Eubank Lacy and Reid. That was his biggest fights and that was stretch over a period of 12 years He also fought the like of Mandfredo, Ashira, Mkrtchyan and Pudwill, which wern't very good.
He also had to fake injuries, pretended to get low blowed and crawl around on the canvas to get a breather from Calzaghe's work rate.
wow the boards are actually alive!! I read today that Froch wants Bute next assuming he wins then he may move to light heavy and take on Cleverly. I think that would be a very easy move to be a two weight champ. I suppose if he does win and then beats bute no one is left for him besides the kessler rematch
Bute did look good against Johnson but has not faced anyone like Froch before. Andrade had Bute out on his feet in their first fight but the ref decided to give a very long count. Where Richard Steel when you need him.
