We will not see the likes of Parkinson again , the chat show is now ego led by a mediocre host who can't listen, can't get or is not allowed to ask the questions due to their media team of the guest Pubs would empty when Parkie had guests like Sellers ,Niven,Ali , ect and that was the talk on Monday at work Ross , Norton take note
Probably quite a few to be honest, or at least there's reason's to not want to hire her. The men's and women's game is still so drastically different in quality, fitness and physicality that it's hard to compare her achievements and credentials to male counterparts as she's been in charge of teams that are roughly of the equivalent (arguably still even lower) to regional division men's teams at semi-pro level and it's fair to say no team in the Prem or even Championship would be open to hiring a manager with that level of experience. It's the same for players, I haven't seen any of this World Cup but I saw one or two games of the previous one and in one of the games they noted that Marta was now the World Cup all time goal scorer, beating Klose's record... Yet if Klose played just one tournament in the women's game he'd likely eclipse his men's record in one tournament, whereas if Marta played in the men's tournament I'm almost certain she wouldn't even have a shot on target. I don't get why the media are trying to mix the two as one, it's the same sport for sure but it's also completely different. None of that should distract from the brilliant job she's doing though, if she picks up the World Cup after the Euros she'll have certainly cemented herself as one of the GOATs of the women's game.
He had three things going for him that few others have since: 1. The show wasn’t about his ego, but getting his guests to open up. 2. As you said, he was great at listening (which helped them open up). 3. He was a trained journalist and was intelligent, which enabled him to ask incisive questions and conduct a proper interview.
Physical abilities of men and women are very different but coaching isn't a physical operation so I see no reason to expect any difference of performance between men and women.
No but coaching has to take into account the physical capabilities of who they manage. It will be far, far different managing men than it is women. Then you've also got the tactical side of things, with better athletes and better technical quality at your disposal as well as against it, you'll need to know how to handle it from both angles. If it were an easy or simple transition then there'd be many more women's team managers making the switch, especially as there's so much more money in the men's game. The men and women's game should be taken each for what they are, crossing over shouldn't really be encouraged/ expected in my opinion, from both sides because the football isn't comparable.
Think you're comparing apples and oranges TBH. The physical aspects could still be covered by male coaching staff as they are now if that was a technical.necessity, but that wouldn't preclude the team manager being a woman - which is more a cerebral activity. Is there a gulf between the men's and women's leagues - damn right there is - but let's face it, not every top male manager was a great player. Our own new coach hardly scaled the heights! And as I said earlier, the women's game has had 2nd and 3rd rate coaches hoisted on their game over the years, so maybe it's payback time! But will it happen? Probably not in my lifetime? Should it happen? Yes, but not before the game starts removing the racism that prevents black and Asian coaches progressing in the game.
You're right in that it's comparing apples and oranges because the game is completely different from the men and women and that's essentially my whole point. Achievement's in the women's game are incomparable to the men's and it doesn't give an accurate insight as to how they'd do in men's football because they're completely inexperienced at dealing with a superior calibre of player. Hiring someone who's only essentially managed at the men's equivalent of roughly regional/ county league football just isn't going to appeal to people in charge of top men's football clubs. It's why we don't see a regional/ county manager suddenly get a Premier League job, they'd only get as such if they achieved success through regionals and through to nationals and then up the football league pyramid. Which is essentially what Ange has done but more of a continental way by going through Australia, Japan and then Scotland before getting a top job in England. I'd be very, very surprised if Wiegman - or any women's team manager for that matter - went from the women's game into a top men's job. I think clubs will just find it too big of a risk and it's why we haven't really seen it before.
I wasn't suggesting that the move would be straight into a top job. They would have to work their way up.
The psyche of men is different to women. Especially in a competitive physical domain such as sports. How do a think a woman attempting to give the "hairdryer treatment" is going to go ??
Asians can’t even break into football as players like it’s a normal career opportunity for them like it is for white or black kids…yeh blacks can’t make it as coaches but they certainly can as players, we can’t even do that. I’ve seen plenty players with huge talent…Ive struggled for decades to understand why Asians can’t make it. We used to hear some kids talking about having had trials at this club or that club and the kid was bang average when we saw him play…but he was white so I guess that helped. The game is part of our culture as British Asians, we have our own leagues so there is a focused pool which helps incase scouts are struggling to find Asians in the game. How can they not be finding at least one per season to be in one academy amongst all these football clubs…plenty black and white kids make it….Asians still can’t, it’s quite insulting. Are they suggesting we don’t know how to play the game? laughable attitude and blatant racism. I’m glad that Yorkshire cricket scandal happened…the same exists in football as far as I’m concerned and needs highlighting.
I saw some stats at least 30 years ago that the average major league baseball player of African descent was significantly better statistically than the average major league baseball player not of African descent. Which is another way of saying that racism was scientifically demonstrated. Of course, it's much easier in a 1 v. 1 sport like baseball to demonstrate, but I suspect it's still true in most sports. The Pittsburgh Pirates won a couple of titles very considerably due to the fact that they were willing to field more players of African descent. I watched the first ever all African American MLB nine. Anyway, one thing I like about Tottenham this year is the greater number of players of African descent. It suits my politics. It suits my prejudices (I've thought African Americans were on average better people and better company than European Americans since I was a kid). And it just might mean the team is likely to be better, if there is racism today in football.
A bit close that. Your theory though breaks down with a certain team in the PL that doesn't do that well and hasn't finished in the European places.
Hang on, lads, I've got an idea for next season's away kit... please log in to view this image please log in to view this image
