No thanks, perpetual second tier football won't see a packed out MKM. The views expressed in my posts are not necessarily mine.
If only that team had known about a process used today involving zones, transitions and false 10's. What a team that would have been. Bullshit baffles brains!
It's mebbe the start of a 'who was the most miserable bastard to pull on a black and amber shirt?' thread - great goal scorer, obnoxious twat though.
Ken Wagstaff is truly a Hull City legend. I saw every one of his appearances at Boothferry Park for City and he was the type of player you felt privledged to see play live. I doubt if we will ever see a goal scorer like him again. His partnership with Chris Chilton deserved to have been seen together in the old First Division leading Hull City. If we had signed a goal keeper and a centre half I'm convinced the team of 1966 would have reached great hieghts. As a lad I heard all the rumours and tales about Waggy off the field. How he sunk ten pints of beer in Tuns before a game, and how he used to have a smoke at half time, etc etc, and the ones about him being a miserable bastard. I've had the pleasure of meeting him personally several times. Years ago when he was the landlord of the Golden Ball down Aire Street, then when he became involved with Tigers 2000, and again through Ex Tigers meetings and fund raisers. He isn't any more miserable then the next man would be when continually pestered for autographs at inapproriate times. He is also good company when he wants to be, as any one is. Perhaps a bit concited, as he has every right to be, like one time he called me over in a packed bar on Princes Avenue after a City game. I went across and he had an audience around him including two young lads, maybe in their 20's. He said to me, 'tell these two how good I was......' The two lads were his grandsons. I don't think I will see another player half as good as Ken Wagstaff was in my lifetime and I feel enternally gratefull that I did see him at his very best. He was good enough to play for England. He should be the guest of honour at every Hull City home game.
That's the only time we ever saw him - mostly in the upstairs bar in Bier Keller in old High Street, always a ****ing misery.
The best inside forward I have seen in City colours, Keith Edwards was probably the closest to him as a goal scorer.
Saw him with a few others and Ian McKechnie in there one Saturday night. What a great guy he was. Took the piss out of one of our crowd mercilessly. So funny. Bier Keller. The best club in town.
It’s a state of the world we live in now that fantastic achievements for our club are being overshadowed by waggys personality especially in his later years. Cheers Waggy you where a superb striker who graced our club.
Yes the only time I got his autograph was when my old m@n saw him in has car counting money on Beverley Westwood after the races ! I still recall his first goal for City v Exeter in November 1964; And when I came over here an Aussie chap remembered wh3n he played in Melbourne after retirement Chillo was good at autographs ,maybe two different personalities but what a combination.
City legend, got his autograph many moons ago (72-73?).. If people think he was a grumpy old **** they've clearly never come across me. My Grandkids all call me 'grumpy grand-da' in their finest Glaswegian accents!!!(The grandson aged 6 calls me a ****ing grumpy old bastard, though he's excused due to his 'tourettes')...Little twat
Absolute Legioned Waggy. Finest inside forward the club has ever had. Waggy and Chillo statue long overdue.. End of chat.. Allam’s GONE. Allam’s GONE.
