In the wake of Calzaghe's retirement I put forward and idea that they should have a tournament of the 6 best super middles in the world so they could fight each other and at the end one fighter would reign supreme.

A few months later Showtime announce there Super 6 tournament, 2 years later we almost reach the end of this journey and when Carl Froch take on Andre Ward in the Super 6 final this autumn we will have a true Super middle champion, arguably the greatest super middle of all time.

It looks like the final will be in Vegas, probably in November.

So what does everybody think of this fight?

How do you think it will go?

And how will the winner rank in the best supermiddles in history?

I was thinking a little round robin tournament involving the the best in the division.

But anyway how do you think the final will go?

I keep thinkin Froch will fail, but bar Kessler and Dirrell, he hasn't.

i am picking Ward to steal it by pickpocket but I hope i am wrong.

I beleive Sugar Ray Leonard held the original super middle belt and I dont feel any of these go down near him.
    Calzaghe, Eubank, Collins, Benn...
I think the legacy of the winner will be made on the defences after winning the super 6.
No one has been super convincing throughout in my humble opinion

SRL only fought at SM 3 times and was not at his best then. The first fight was against Lalonde who was a light-heavy but had to come down to SM and put his LH on the line. The 2nd fight was against Hearns, it was called a draw but Hearn probably won it. And the 3rd fight was against Duran, who was way past his best fighting at a weight where he should never be at.

    Not really great now.

Eubank, Benn and Collins never took on the best around, never fought Toney.

Back then the depth of competition was lacking, because it was a relativity new division.

Calzaghe IMO has to be the no.1 supermiddle in history, wins over Eubank, Kessler, Lacy, Robin Reid and other good wins over the like of past champions such as Mitchell and Brewer have him at top spot.

But say if Froch does win the super 6, he would have had wins over Taylor, Pascal, Dirrel, Ward Abraham and Johnson. That pushes Calzaghe's record very close, and it very arguable that this would be good enough to be considered the greatest Supermiddle ever. Same goes to Ward to a certain extent but he might need Bute as well.

Froch is easily good enough to win it but after his last performance i'm really starting to have my doubts.

    Just Bumping this thread.

Only just round the corner this one. Seen Froch on Sky Sports today saying the postponement has helped him. Expects a tough fight from Ward but believes Wards lack of power will allow him to walk through his punches and land his own.

Ward is a superior boxer to Froch and it will most likely end with a unanimous decision in Ward’s favour. Froch is very one dimensional as a fighter and is far to easy to hit.

do you mean Ward vs Abraham or Froch vs Abraham either way Arthur Abraham is a very average fighter who was quickly shown when he moved to better figthers.

A better comparison would be Kessler vs Froch/Ward in which Ward was far better against Kessler than Froch was

    Froch vs Abraham.

You claim Froch is 1 dimensional, ei can only fight one way?

Do you think Froch fought AA the same way he fought Kessler?

Pretty much, he tried a slightly different approach but he was still very open. Froch is good going forward pressuring his opponents and stopping them later on. He is not that good at countering given the fact that he is very open, just look at the fight with Kessler below:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=al6ga6m-3Xk

he initially tried to counter him and use his jab and when that didn’t work he went back to fighting close range. He might of been able to use his boxing skills against the likes of Arbaham but it proved to be not nearly as effective against Kessler. Ward is superior to both Abraham and Kessler in terms of his boxing skills and Froch won’t win if he tries to counter him, the only chance he may have of victory would be to pressure Ward and possibly catch him late on stopping him. I very much doubt it though given that Ward has fought Kessler and Abraham who are seen as relatively hard hitters.
