Here we are again, like last season desperate for midfielders and our recent targets all missed. Let us hope we do not repeat the mistake of getting someone like Arthur in, we paid him to do his rehab at our club. Whatever the truth behind the failed bids for Caicedo and Lavia, players and agents usually respond to money and I suspect Chelsea just offered more money to the players and agents. We need to move on quickly now, there are plenty of players out there but we have to be realistic at this stage and practical in what we do now
Harry Maguire transfer to West Ham has stalled. reason Maguire wants a payoff of £6m from Manchester United.
I dont think we need to be signing 50 to 100mil players in every position to be able to compete. Every now and again it's good to go out and get that final piece of the jigsaw, like we did with virg and pay what's needed. But at the moment we don't need a final piece, we need to put the jigsaw together. There are to many areas needing attention to splurge on one player. The first 11 needs players never mind the squad. Cacaido was 4 million, he's been sold for over 100million. Now think what Brighton could do with that money, that is what we used to do. We should be looking for the next big thing, not in the prem, it's pointless, there's no value, but you can't tell me the next kante or suarez isn't playing somewhere now. It's not just the fee it's the wages offered to these players. We either take a risk, or we accept our entire club and wage structure has to change. Or the 3rd option slowly decline until we hit the level of villa or spurs, also rans happy to have the odd one off win against a bigger team.
because legally it wasn't a loan as to get round FFP he issued more shares in Chelsea which he then bought (there is a specific term for this but cannot remember what it is) it was just he asked for it back when Chelsea were seized . PS Leicester have done the same to get round FFP
We can't do that. UEFA have banned 8-year contracts, haven't they? I have no idea how Chelsea will get around that when. presumably, they'll be back in Europe next season. A dude on Sky Sports said yesterday that Boehly is making a calculated gamble that he'll just get a fine -albeit massive - and he'll tie it up in legal knots by sending in the London lawyers. Whatever he's doing, it didn't work for Everton, but we'll see, I suppose.
I would be over the moon with two players. A defensive midfielder and someone who can cover both centre-back and right back. If we splashed on those two positions and then perhaps improved depth a little next summer I think that would be perfect. I don't think we HAVE to get that many more players in. I'd rather two top quality players over four or five good players.
Indeed. The fact that we're flailing around now in the vortex caused by Chelsea's Abramavovic reboot is due to lack of planning from 2020 onwards. FSG used Covid as an excuse not to invest in what was then measured as the best squad in Europe - nobody else did. That and the fact that we now learn Edwards was overruled about renewing the contracts for Hendo and Milly when the likes of Enzo was being offered for £15m... That said though, they were right, IMO, not to renew Gini's contract - but they made no ****ing effort whatsoever to replace him with a box-to-box midfielder in his mould. This type of dereliction of duty is why we're in this morass now.
Bearing in mind we turned 2 of them down, they can gloat all they like. As a wise man once said "who cares".
So how are we rating big Jorg, 3/10, 5/10? He's only a temp. Good job because he's failing his audition .... so far.
I've frequently said that Klopp has one formation (and this cost us when we lost Virgil and Joe that season) - that is 4-3-3. He now has 4-3-3 with a peripatetic RB free to roam around the pitch, leaving a gaping gap on our right flank because our right-winger never tracks back in a million years.
I really hope Klopp can make this current system work because it looks like it's here to stay. You make a good point re. right flank but we now have Dom to provide stability - he's a work horse. The biggest issue is the left side of me - Diaz doesn't protect as well as Mane, hopefully Mac at LCM and a new DM will provide more cover but then Robbo has significantly regressed over the past 18 months.
If he's behind Macca and Dom I'll give him 6/10 so far. Would have been 9/10 had he got Lavia, but this time last week I didn't even think Caecedo was on the radar, so when the dust settles we've lost nothing there apart from face, and we've forced Chelsea to shell out £35m more than they'd hoped for (£85m if you factor in Lavia, who they didn't really, really want as well).
we have no idea. macallister was a long term thing thats for sure. we had to know and work on that release at 35mil. Szoboszlai is probably long term as well and trigger a 60mil clause. what can he go do in 3 months really and how can we know to rate him? he worked a bid on caicedo. Brighton were not unhappy. thats about it. 3 bids on lavia or 2 if you lot like. who decided the player value at 35 to 40 and what was he instructed to do? again we don't know. let's be fair at least and say no rating as not on the park long enough cos one thing is for sure he won't be around for January.
