I would rather see 4-4 draws than 0-0 draws. For that reason, I am currently purchasing Russell Martin pyjamas
Haha, my mate who i go with was exactly the same. Was moaning about the passing about at the back and kept saying get it up the park. Bazunu did just that and it went straight to them. "Straight to them! Useless!" He didn't get that that is why we don't just launch it forward....
Just watching Brentford v spurs VAR ruining the flow of the game. Surely the best thing about being in the championship.
The guy behind me could see A) we were playing at the back on purpose B) the opposition were pushing up on us C) that we then were looking to go forward quickly but he could not see the connection between these three things. I despair at some people’s lack of intelligence.
Average football fan doesn’t understand football at all. It’s crazy. For all the moaning I do on here, when I am at the stadium I am always positive trying to encourage the players. It is absolutely baffling to me how people think moaning & being negative will help the team
Pretty much agree with this. If he can be coached in the final ball etc, he is going to terrify defenders. I can see us getting a fair few penalties this season with the way we play in the box. Quite honestly with all the other stuff going on around them, I left the ground yesterday with a lightness in my step not felt for a couple of more years. The lads never got their heads down and right to the end I always felt we would get a point at least. RM seems to be getting his message across, can't wait for the next SMS day!!
It was crucial we scored late on to Equalise too - That will give the players even more belief in the way that we play.
Goal 2 was an example of how soft our midfield were. We had plenty of opportunities to close them down before they got into a shooting position. Taking nothing away from the strike, but he shouldn’t be allowed to steady himself and take a pop from that kind of range with relatively little pressure.
The worst goal for me was the corner. Absolutely criminal for him to be unmarked. Criminal. We won’t get anywhere near promotion if we give goals away that easily.
It's not quite the same - and I know I'll get the piss taken out of me for even mentioning I played football - but I remember a Wiltshire Cup game when a team we played in Round 2 couldn't understand how we beat them 2-1 because they won 12-1 in the first round and we won our first round game 7-3. So they thought they were 7 goals better than us. I think I was about 23 at the time and I still remember it because I just thought 'People involved in football really don't understand one tiny thing about it'. I also remember my late brother saying he stopped going to St Mary's so much because he was sat next to a bloke who was going mental because Saints weren't 'Getting it up front' - Saints were winning 2-0 and there was about 5 minutes to go.
Do you all nod sagely at Saints' Zen-like passing, applaud politely at good play by the opposition, then pull out your football rattles to cheer on our lads? Or is it just me stuck in a 1950's timewarp?
Guess they’re the sort that goes for a pie and pint at 40 minutes “to beat the queue” and those people leaving at 4-4 with a couple of minutes left.
So towards the end of the match Saturday I had a pain in right side of chest and arm. Assumed I pulled a muscle or something celebrating the 3rd goal. That was until I woke up early hours of Sunday really short of breath, turns out I had a punctured lung All good though now and although a bit late thought I'd share my thoughts: - Thought first half, bar a ten minute period, we were pretty average and similar to the Wednesday game in that we weren't really creating much. Second half however was 100x better and really showed the potential of this team attacking wise and how we could be in for a fun season. - Think a lot of the above is down to Alcaraz, he was a bit off it in the first half and was almost trying to hard to chase the ball rather than find pockets of space. Second half he was the opposite and was borderline unplayable for the final 30 minutes. As has been said before it really feels like he could be the difference maker this season, we must do everything to keep him. Really unlucky with that effort off the bar. - Less said about us defensively the better but playing without a proper DM clearly doesn't work and we've hopefully learned our lesson there. Even with one though I think we'll concede a lot of goals from counter attacks this season. Some of the transitions gave me flashbacks to the Leicester 9-0 where they looked like they could score with every break. - On the subject of DMs and it's clear to me that Smallbone isn't one. He had an excellent game though and I'm absolutely gutted for him re his injury, looked a bad one as soon as he went down. A huge loss for us that and another big player for us this season. - Thought the ref was largely excellent and deserves credit seeing as I normally give them stick. Wasn't perfect (thought second pen was soft) but as a second tier official not sure we can't expect too much more. Mixed thoughts on this added time business, good to clamp down on time wasting but feel a lot of people will miss trains for midweek matches. - Early days but I've not been particularly impressed with Tella in the two matches so far. The young lad (Amo something?) looks a real talent though and would be tempted to start him v QPR. - I'm not gonna go on about it all season but how nice was it to enjoy a goalfest like that without VAR? It really has ruined the game as a live spectacle in my view and Saturday confirmed I'll never change my mind on that. The fact even Tom liked my post about the game flowing better says it all. Bit of a long post but a great start to our home campaign. Buzzing for the rest of the season. UTFS
