Good post marra. I'd also seen on the bbc a year or so ago, a reporter saying the migrants first words to the RNLI were "Can you direct us to the nearest free bank where they give out the free money..." Awful situation, which is not going to be resolved by the incompetent tories as there's no money in it for them.
Trump in bother again. Interesting that because it's a state and not federal charge, he couldn't pardon himself. The timing stinks, obviously, but he'd have done exactly the same no doubt. He can't win again, surely.
Don't worry the conspiracy theories are abounding to help Trump. Obama is gay and just has had his lover killed.
Inflation down another 1.1%. We'll be into Sunak's target next month unless wage inflation has an effect.
Go back far enough, and you will discover an immigrant, legal or otherwise, in your background. And they all came across in little, (by current standards) wooden boats. So, it's a long standing tradition.
Have you ever tried getting through passport control with a horned helmet and an axe? We've had vastly successful waves of immigration in living memory (just). The people who came from all over the Empire, Commonwealth and beyond at the end of WWII wanted a better life, but they also wanted to contribute. Whether we treated them properly is another discussion, but they made British culture immeasurably richer. Is the current wave of immigration helping us? The system may be failing, but the attitude from a lot those coming here is a lot different as well. We need to learn the lesson from Brexit - if you ignore and then attack those with genuine and legitimate concerns for long enough, you're going to drive them into the arms of the nutters. When we're imprisoning immigrants, letting them sink without helping, turning them back and leaving them to their fate, the chances we had to have a sensible conversation but couldn't because someone was screaming racism will be rued.
The whole inflation thing is a bit of a gimmick. The quantitative easing meant inflation went up and it would come down. Gary the economist said it would happen. Actually the issue is low wages ie those not earning enough aren’t resilient to change so it’s low wages that need sorting for the economy to be resilient. Calling for low wages for the working class is problematic, it’s earnings elsewhere that are the problem ie executive wages and failure of high earners to contribute to the tax system. The interest rates caused by Truss and Kwarteng are the other big issue. Low middle earners are ruined. Some today to a friend, a single mum who hasn’t pay 250 a month more. She can do it but other than paying financiers what to them is a pittance, she won’t be contributing as much to the everyday local economy because she has no slack. Financiers making money, high earners not paying tax doesn’t help me and you.
I'm sure it's just a coincidence that he chose the non-white MPs involved - not Jenrick as Immigration Minister or Farage as the ringleader - for the 'came over here and don't want anyone else to' comment.
You could say that but they are the face of it for the government and nimby is not I. My back yard, I’d say that it applies to them wanting to keep foreign people away. That’s xenophobic, the close relative of racism. Arguably he’s being anti racist
Quite clearly is something I also question. I’d suggest you quite clearly don’t know many of them, treat a diverse range of families and individuals as ‘them’. Is that not the root of discrimination? I’m a northern English Sunderland fan but I’d suggest not much like you
