Was never a JWP fan and am happy to see him move on but just read his farewell letter and said to the missus "JWP's written a very nice letter". She asked me to read it out loud but I then realised that I wouldn't be able to without shedding a tear or two....so told her it had disappeared off the screen. He was a true Saint and a genuinely decent lad....I'm going to miss him.
Holy **** balls. A potential bidding war for McCarthy from multiple clubs eh? Never thought we'd see that. Though I'd still be happy to give him away.
I mean sure he can go for free. But you'd think a couple of million would be acceptable to Everton and Crystal Palace. Regardless though, please take him and take him now.
I've always been a fan of Prowsey (i've always though that he should've played further forward) but in a strange way this is the perfect time for him to move on. I don't think that he is a great leader on the pitch and we have been poor collectively since he took the armband so here we go in a new era with a new captain and I for one will be giving JWP the reception that he richly deserves if/when we meet again. Best of British Saint James, i'll be rooting for you to break Beckham's record and to get your England place back.
Yeah, I could read. Just thought it was a funny thought to play off Palace & Everton like Chelsea & Liverpool over one of our rejects
Does anyone know what the golf is like up in the Liverpool area? That will be McCarthy’s main consideration in picking a club (assuming the wages on other are equal / similar). There are lots of good courses in the south east which probably leans him more towards Palace
I had a similar reaction watching the Twitter feed video earlier on this thread. Feels a bit like the time when Mick Channon left for Man City. Couldn't get used to that but of course the rest is true Saints folklore when he came back. All players have their weak moments but despite JWP's critics, to have someone on the pitch who has been a fan, right through to being picked for England, wearing our shirt, that's a different and special feeling for me for sure. I know it's business etc but there we are.
Out of interest - where are people getting that our players had a 40% relegation wage reduction clause? And do we think they all did or might there be some signed longer ago that don’t ? That might impact some decisions? FM 2023 in the update seems to think everyone had a 45% (not 40%). But some of the websites with salaries have applied the reduction to some players (Adams and Lyanco for example) but not others (Aribo, Armstrong and Bednarek). I could see latter of those two not having them as they might have signed on before we really took a turn for the worse. But if none of those three have reductions we should probably be looking to move them all on because the first two aren’t regular starters (Aribo is no way near) and Bednarek is arguably the open slot in central defence that a “first team” CB signing could go into. Likely on half the wages or less
There are three Open courses there in Birkdale, Hoylake and Lytham so I suspect that will tip the scales towards Merseyside!
American billionaire dick waving contest in full swing. Remember being a child and thinking adults have their **** together, then realising that even the Worlds most successful people usually have playground personalities.
I was reading the mailbox of a football website earlier where a liverpool fan has the brass neck to write in a complain about Chelsea tapping up Caicedo and suggested that liverpool only lost out because they were doing their transfers the right way. I was flabbergasted The complaint was about how Caicedo agreed terms with Chelsea in May. They seem to have ignored that Liverpool have agreed terms with a Lavia for about a month now The comment section put them right and indeed suggested the only reason there was no tapping up of Caicedo was because it was clearly a panicked bid
If I go off of what is in FM23 but assume : - 40 % reduction for everyone - all leaving players having their wages 100% covered by their new team - Lavia’s gone even though not yet confirmed then we have exactly halved our wage bill. This doesn’t factor in the salaries for new players so it isn’t quite half. There are still some departures to come I expect and hopefully some incomings. Not sure what we need to get it to realistically Something to note : Smallbone and Tella are on relatively low wages and therefore them seeking a move or new contract is understandable.
Didn`t Liverpool get fined a while back for tapping up youth players at other clubs?. This was before the VVD saga when they had to publish an embarrassing apology to us.
