Release clause if we don’t get promoted? Not the worst idea providing he is interested. Some slight risk if he were to pick up a serious injury and we didn’t get promoted. Also might mess with the wage structure I had a scan of football manager and noticed that our big problem seems to be that we did basically what arsenal did in the past - have a very “equitable” wage structure where basically everyone was paid the same regardless of how good or bad or important they were to the team. Per the game everyone was on 40-50k except JWP, Walcott, Bednarek, Armstrong and Elyounoussi. And I think one more who I am blanking on. So Lyanco was on the same money as Che and KWP for example. Exceptions were some of the much younger players This was compared to West Ham who some how beat us to Downes but were apparently paying him 25k. You’d have assumed based on our structure we would have offered him 40-50k. I guess we needed to move someone on last summer? That or the 25k was wrong Point is I’m not sure we can start having people knock on the door wanting 50k a week like Che if we do bump him up
Agree with your comment about trading up for an option better than Holgate. I had not considered the impact on Bedders, you raised a good point.
Fair point and I'd normally advocate that harmony as well. I suppose it's a fine balance but at some point we'll have to accept that if you want the quality to get us out of this division, we might need to go a little extra for some players. His two goals have already showed him at a higher level than other strikers at this level.
Meanwhile, at Leeds… https://twitter.com/fiorentinatuna/status/1691017752205492225?s=46&t=f0hgNyKSvvOD5qjGLJhsXQ
And he’s apparently had interest. Whilst on paper we’d struggle to find a CB with his level of PL and International experience for a good price we know the game isn’t played on paper. He was part of a defence that conceded 4 at the weekend and 2 of whom will be fixed (Stephens and Manning). So something has got to give somewhere. Unless the answer is more to do with the midfield in front. He is one of the top earners though. I wouldn’t be averse (again on paper) to moving on ABK and Bednarek and bringing in a big money signing like Harwood-Bellis and then the Bristol City guy for cover in RB, CB and DM. Fresher start and better for the wage budget. Then maybe move on Lyanco and just have Awe and Charles as 4th choice cover. But this is getting too much into Football Manager territory
Che's 2 goals in 2 games have both come from open play and sub appearances off the bench too. Think it's pretty important that we keep him this season. Confident we will offload Tall Paul and it's seeming more likely that Mara may be shipped out too even if on loan, so we will need another striker anyway even keeping Che.
Was the amount Leeds were quoted as offering. https://www.leeds-live.co.uk/sport/leeds-united/taylor-harwood-bellis-leeds-united-27445976
I don’t disagree but it will be tricky recruiting someone as a second or third choice striker unless they can also play elsewhere in the forward line so they can challenge for multiple slots in the team
Sounds like there is top flight interest. Not sure our city links and Wilcox are enough to overcome that. Unless it doesn’t seem like he will start at the Prem clubs just yet
