Sacha Tavolieri reckons we made a verbal offer for Orban of €27m but Gent want €30m plus add ons. We’ll make a written offer within the week. Fraser Fletcher also says we’re closing in on him but in a second tweet says “work still to do and interest remains around Europe”, sort of sounds like we’re not really closing in yet then. There’s certainly a feeling that Orban could be the next big thing though so I really hope it’s something we push for. Kid’s basically like the Nigerian Haaland at the moment, 44 goals in 49 games between two different teams, bagged a hattrick the other night in a conference league play off.
If Spurs ever seem a danger to win anything, that would be one thing. But if you're going to lose in any case, may as well lose nicely.
I wonder if the board will view him as too expensive if it creeps up past 30m, bearing in mind we’ve got Richarlison, Veliz and only 1 game a week. I know you love richarlison as much as Winks, and even though the fans are looking at orban as a top prospect, I can’t help but feel that we won’t pursue him due to being fairly well stocked with attacking players.
Ange has said that directly replacing Kane isn’t something we’re looking to do, as we’ve already conducted business in preparation for Kane’s departure. He also mentioned that trimming the squad is the next priority, followed by filling the gaps where possible. pretty obvious stuff really. I just hope we get on with the departures as quickly as possible, and don’t leave ourselves with a deadline day scramble, not only to get more out of the door, but to bring in the necessities. It’s one hell of a job cutting this squad down in 1 window, so I really hope we see some movement this week in order to get anywhere near the number of outgoings we need to make. - whilst Simultaneously not taking our eye off the ball with the availability of the players we’re targeting. Big 2-3 week ahead.
Football BSider claim that Poch doesn't want to sell Conor Gallagher to us Meanwhile, it appears Nottingham Forest are favourites to sign Victor Nelsson from Galatasaray - although with Perr Schuurs entering the mix in the last week or so, that would indicate we possibly let Nelsson drop off the shopping list already (although as it was mostly Turkish sources reporting it, there's always the other possibility...)
It doesn't much matter if we have a bloated squad as we can probably loan out most of the excess to avoid the salary costs and everything else is a sunk cost. It definitely shouldn't stop us bringing in improvements where available. I think Højbjerg is the only exception where the transfer fee would be large enough to move the dial on a signing.
Ange said Veliz will take a while to settle and won’t likely play much in the first half of the season so we’ll definitely need another striker. I don’t even think our board are dumb enough to honestly not sign a striker after selling the greatest one we’ve ever had but I guess I shouldn’t hold my breath on that. For what it’s worth, I do think Richarlison will be far better than last season, realistically he can’t be any worse and he’ll return a moderate amount of goals, probably around 13 in all comps but that just isn’t enough, both from a £60m signing and just in general of what this club needs. We need someone hitting around 20 in all comps and the majority coming in the league too and so I think/ hope the plan is to bring in Orban and basically have a battle royale in due course between him, Veliz, Scarlett and Donley as to who can become Kane’s long term heir.
I hope you’re right, and we see that happen. It’s time that those with no future are moved on in one way or another. Totally agree about hojbjerg. If he’s not suited to the system, that rumoured £30m will come in very handy.
so many scenarios to play out. The overall picture is figuring out how we reduce our goals conceded from 63 to about 30-40, as well as collectively replacing a large number of Kane’s goals across the team, or certainly multiple players. That’s a massive challenge, and I’ll have a lot of respect for Ange if he can get somewhere towards that in his first season.
I’m so on board with Ange and his plans and I think he does have an idea of how to both reduce the numbers we concede as well share the goal burden left by Kane but I just have little to no faith in the board anymore to really help him with those plans so it’s about how well he can do despite as such.
me too. Really impressed so far. Already it feels like there’s a totally different atmosphere, and dare I say it…. Direction. I can see us doing alright in terms of sharing the goal burden. Let’s be honest, it’s a monumental task replacing 30 goals from one of the worlds best strikers. But if we can achieve 20 or so between multiple players, then that’ll be a decent return. However, that’s still 10 less than we need, so defensively we’re gonna need to be as solid as possible, to essentially make up for another -10. For me, there’s more work to do in terms of incomings in defence, than anywhere else.
Does anyone else have a feeling of dread that we've already spent the 'Kane money' and won't see any further significant incomings? Are we back to being a net zero club?
We were the 2nd highest spender in January and so far the 4th highest in the current window. It's not clear if there is more to go this window but Ange has alluded to there being more subject to outgoings. Net zero? I don't think so.
yep, said this a couple of pages ago. Unfortunately, the lack of faith I now have in the transfer window is telling me that we’ll “have tried” for certain players, but will ultimately finalise a quick deal for Lenglet at the last minute.
Perr Schuurs seems to have overtaken Adarabioyo and especially Lenglet in the last couple of weeks worth of rumours
let’s see how that pans out, or whether we just go back in for what we know. I wasn’t that impressed with Lenglet, and have no idea how he’d work out in Ange’s system, but I can see the club opting for him as we already know more about him. And he’s cheap.
It does appear that the Barca press are keen to see Lenglet join us - but I honestly can't recall seeing any mention of him from our side since the Retain/Release list was published
As I mentioned to DH the other day, we have so many to move on that even if we signed another 2/3 players we could afford to dump maybe 60m into them and still break even if we get an average of say 5m, which is a pretty nominal fee these days, for the chaff. And that’s without factoring in Kane. I guess what I’m saying is that focusing on net spend the next few windows, when we have so many to sell, isn’t that clear if an indicator. I’m more concerned with making sure the ones that do come in are the right profile of player and person for Ange.
