Unless Kane was prepared to stay beyond the end of his remaining contract, it makes perfect sense for the club financially. Bayern have not overpaid per se (Kane is good at the top level for another 5 years if he stays fit) - only in the context of his contractual position. I’m surprised Kane left. I thought he would stay and see out the 12 months before an assessing his options. He has a young family and it’s a big upheaval to move abroad. I didn’t think Bundesliga titles would excite him, although he could well win CLs there. But he is clearly a winner; he wants to win trophies. I don’t think the PL goal scoring record matters much at this time. It’s a fairly meaningless gong in the grand scheme of things. And if Haaland plays here until he’s 30, he’ll smash it by miles anyway.
Kane wins the award for most professional deportment on the brink of a move with those four goals. Levy in a nutshell. Good with business, not so good with football. Can't see the squad for the players. Contrast Spurs to Dortmund, a club with comparable resources. Dortmund hang on to their stars much less desperately. They also win things. That's not a coincidence.

They win things because they're only really competing with one or two clubs. The other major teams in Germany are a shambles.
Not focal point in terms of "Get the ball to him", the focal point of literally everything Let's start with the most obvious example: we brought in coaches whose football had the knock-on effect of prolonging his elite status by at least 2-3 years. Considering how various players were almost literally falling apart after four seasons of high intensity football under Poch, with Dembele and Wanyama no longer capable of top tier football anymore by the 2018-19 season (hence their moves to China and MLS) while Dele and Lamela seemed to be perpetually on the injured list by this point (though Lamela at least managing to prolong his top tier career with a move to Sevilla when it was obvious he couldn't handle PL football anymore) and H's ankles were guaranteed to go at least once a season at this time, though by bringing in counterattacking coaches we did preserve his legs While there's plenty of arguments about bringing in counterattacking coaches and the knock-on effects that had with other parts of our team, be it exposing our porous midfield and that in turn exposing our defenders who weren't signed with trench warfare in mind, but the reason they were sounded out was because the primary thought wasn't just trying to get a trophy but also to make sure that both Kane and Son would have been physically capable of playing in a final 2-3 years after Poch was sacked
Tbf, if is a lot easier to win the Bundesliga. But I'd much rather root for a team that refreshes every couple of years. Squads that are neither young nor threats to win big trophies curdle and become manager killers. Spurs since the end of Pochettino's tenure are a perfect example.
No problem with Kane leaving and I don’t blame Levy. He has spent years trying to give Kane what he wants. It just didn’t work out. I support spurs, the football club, not individual players. So whoever is at the club, I’ll support them and wish them well. I’m just glad that Kane didn’t do a “Campbell” and burn his bridges.
I believe he’s just been named as the team’s captain. Not convinced this is logical but there you go!

It’s done now. Onwards and upwards. Loving the way Ange has been speaking. He’s clearly not stupid and knew this was coming. Fully confident he’ll get it right. Considering 5th is likely to get champions league, excited to see what our season will bring.

Love Sonny to bits, but unless I'm missing something, he's never really shown himself as a captain / leader on the pitch. But it's difficult to immediately think of a better option. Maddison may become that option, but unless Romero sorts his temperament out I wouldn't be passing him the armband too soon. Down the line, Bissouma or Bentancur may step up that way.
