I concur. For me, social media simply acts as a heart-warming reminder that my intelligence level could be a lot worse
Now we’ve upgraded on prowsey, it would be nice to get a Centre back and a striker through the door. RM didn’t seem particularly confident on incomings
Please tell me we’re not going to rely on Armstrong and Adams for goals and Lyanco as backup CB. That would be really worrying.
One of the 'ITKs' on SW posting a cryptic suggestion of an incoming from Swansea. Fancy Piroe first seeing as Downes looks set to join, but imagine Grimes is more likely?
I don’t need to imagine. I just need to go to the politics thread on here. (joking before I get pelters)
Genuinely would be v happy with this outcome. midfield of Downes, grimes & Alcaraz with smallbone and Shea as backup is unreal at championship level.
If we bring in Grimes too I wouldn't be shocked to see Smallbone leave. Very disappointed, but not shocked. Unless of course Shea Charles will be operating primarily as a CB throughout the season.
This discussion has come up before. I can’t remember if the conclusion was that Facebook or Twitter was the most deranged. It is between those two for top. Then ugly inside. Then Saintsweb. Then here for the least
Then we’d need another midfielder if Smallbone goes as well. Can’t have 4 for 3 slots for 46 games. Even 5 if you count Stu in that position feels light. And Smallbone can play further forward. His best game pre injury and loan was an advanced 10 in the Ralph 4-2-2-2
Liverpool and Chelsea are basically clogging up the entire transfer market in their battle to see who can spend the most idiotic amount of money on one player.
I'm not really looking at Alcaraz, or his position, as part of this equation. As much as I'd like Grimes, Downes, Smallbone and Charles for our 2 CM options, I think they will all expect to be regular starters and wouldn't be at the club if they wern't.
I know we keep our transfer dealings closer to our chests, but I am a little concerned we aren't making a few noises about our intention to spend in the rest of the window. I guess we are worried about inflated prices.
As far as I can tell we are primarily playing 4-3-3 with one “6” and two “8s”. Alcaraz is one of those and so is part of the equation. He can’t play every game and seemingly can’t even regularly play all of one yet. Let alone when it gets to two games a week every week It seems like Smallbone, Downes and Charles can all play 6. And Alcaraz, Smallbone, Grimes and Stu can play 8. Downes maybe as well - don’t know enough about him. With Doyle as a youth option. Charles can also play RB and CB. Indeed the inverted wing back moving them effectively into CDM might make Charles a good option there I haven’t counted Aribo as I think we will be looking to move him on even if it is a late loan. I’m quite alarmed by the people who seem to think that just because we are in the championship we need to eschew the idea of a squad and have people playing every minute of every game and hoping they don’t get injured. But perhaps both Grimes and Downes are too high calibre meaning only one comes in and then a more reserve option. Time will tell. But going light on central midfield has cost us heavily in the past. Not least last season with only one proper defensive midfielder
