Not for me. Signing players is hit and miss but there is no way of improving the team without trying. £100m of debt repayment saves less than £5m of interest each year and does no other good. £100m of players ought to move the dial at least and even the ECL brings in more than £5m
Before the new stadium we couldn't usually afford their prime targets and now we can, their prime targets have often been signed and turn out to be hopeless.
This does reek of bitterness IMHO on the likely departure. 1. On ther CL final, that is solely on Pochettino. I (and probably others) are on record here stating before the event, that if he was NOT 100% FIT that he should not be in the starting XI, He was evidently not, and the rest is what it is. 2. (I am freely seeking education from the "old hands" on this if necessary - so here goes ...) Could not the same be said of Greavsie ?? For all the phenomenal prowess during his time at Spurs, how pivotal was he to the trophies won / level played by Spurs ?? Is there not a case to say that the Mackay leg breaks, the tragic loss of John White etc were far more serious to ever maintaining the level of the Double side than Greavsie having "off days" against the "big boys" ??
Also I think the Kane money gets booked as immediate profit so spending it won't trigger the covenant on the loans which wouldn't be true for a capital infection from the owners.
The issue compared to the Bale windfall is that, ten years ago, £80m could feasibly buy an entire starting midfield given the market value for players to do that would have been between £15-30m These days £80m wouldn't do that, barring some world class scouting spotting players in the Belgian/Croatian/Argentine/Brazilian/Danish/Austrian/Swiss leagues before they got on the radar of any number of clubs, instead that would get us two starting midfielders at best and, more than likely, just the one In other words, I hope that we don't see a repeat of the Baldini splurge and focus on key areas of the team, as a CB and DM certainly would be valuable to the squad
It’s a very sad day; losing one of our own who has given us so many memorable moments and been our best player and top goal scorer is hard. But he leaves with my blessing I hope he hits out of the park for Bayern and I will watch their champions league games with interest and I hope to see him win it in his time with them. I don’t think he is giving up on Shearers record just yet either, I think he could come back to England in 3 years and if he stays fit he could still have 3 seasons to chase him down. I know that no one here wants to see Richarlison replace him, but he is here and must be given the chance and our support as our new centre forward in the short term at least. He is never matching Kanes numbers, but he is in the building has had a full pre-season and we should get behind him. The money won’t score Kanes goals, we need to be smarter than we have ever been with investing this money in the 2 or 3 additional players that we need and I like CKs list if we bought those 3 players in the match day squad might be competitive, but there are those words again synonymous with Spurs ‘if’ and ‘might’. There was life after Greaves, Hoddle, Gascoigne, Berbatov, Modric and Bale, there will be life after Harry.
There's potential for some 4D chess there: Atleti are looking at both Amrabat and Hojbjerg, so (in theory...) if we sign Amrabat that forces their hand on Hojbjerg
I find my emotions are different in PL days probably because of the money involved in football or the lack of local players involved at the top level. Of course it could be an age thing but I certainly don't feel grateful for any footballers contribution to Spurs. I enjoy good play as I always have but I feel different about Greaves, for example, because he was not earning thousands of pounds a week, he was on similar money to say a top bricklayer. Players join a team now because of the contract offered and it seems the chance to play in top competitions. Kane has no affiliations with Munich AFAIK he is going to win stuff and be part of one of the elite teams in Europe. There is no 'love' of the badge for itself. The same as players from far flung parts of the world shown kissing the badge in their first week at the club. I'm not convinced about their 'love' for Tottenham it'd more likely be the fat contract and the chance to live in London. So Kane leaves and my emotions tend to be cool. Thanks for all the great football moments, some amazing passes, some great goals but I shed no tears. I now look to the team being more important than any individual and look forward to the rebuild and the focus shifting to the whole team. RCL pointed out how our season may have been blighted if Kane stayed without signing a new contract as the media speculation lasted all season on what would he do? The attention will now shift to Ange who appears to me to be resilient enough to deal with the loss of his main striker. It will in some ways take some pressure off Ange because well, he never had Kane did he. I fully expect Spurs to be a stronger proposition by the end of this season and I would not be at all surprised if they surpassed expectations just like we have done in the past following the loss of superstars.
In terms of depth we do but I think Bissouma is the 6 in this system but more as a DLP than say an anchor, and I think it’ll make for exciting stuff albeit sides like City and Pool will probably knock 5 past us, lol. I can live with that though if we thump the Luton and Wolves of the world by similar scorelines.
It has already been spent, look at how 3 deals were wrapped up quickly once a fee had been agreed with Bayern.
The club has always been able to afford prime targets but has always chosen not to spend the money, and is still refusing to pay the going rates today.
So now his flight to Munich has been cancelled https://www.flightradar24.com/data/aircraft/d-cawo Pletternberk is having kittens as we speak...
