Agree with that. Official announcement here: https://www.canaries.co.uk/content/aarons-completes-permanent-move-to-afc-bournemouth Glad that he went to Bournemouth in the PL rather than Leeds and us having to play against him as well as Farke. Always a bit hard when a long serving player leaves but it's right for both him and the club. All the best Max!
Love Max great professional & gentleman, the last few seasons he's neither been a solid full back or creating chances as the modern wing back . We already look better with Stacey on the right who likes to put a cross in rather than try to dribble into the box or pass backwards. The money will come in handy & keeps the lights on.
This seems to be a win-win for all concerned. Max gets a move to the PL, Bournemouth gets a 23 year old England U21 player on a long-term contract and we get an experienced RB at the peak of his career who is perfectly suited to Wagner's tactics, plus up to £12m to finance recruitment over the next couple of seasons. I can't help thinking that we have got the best out of this deal. As Will Jennings points out: "Securing such a meaningful amount of cash from the Cherries in exchange for a free upgrade in Stacey is an unequivocally impressive - and genuinely quite amusing - piece of activity." The key word being 'upgrade'. Leeds losing out was just a bonus. https://www.pinkun.com/news/23715225.norwich-city-chief-stuart-webber-transfer-window-trump-card/
Bournemouth paid £25m for Alex Scott (19) from Bristol City and only £7m + add ons for Max Aarons, 23. Both have played for England youth teams. Can’t see why there is such a difference in value.
I suspect that's because of the length of contracts involved. It's now being reported as £9m rising to £12m for Max, which was limited by his having only 10 months left on his contract. Don't know anything about the Scott deal but at 19 he probably had years remaining on his contract.
Just checked it Alex Scott had a contract until 2025 with Bristol City, he's also a few years younger so arguably got more potential to improve
The fee Bournemouth have paid for Scott is much the same as the fee touted for Max two or three years ago. Even apart from length of contract, it surely isn't hard to see why Max's value has dropped in that time. Bournemouth have shown themselves prepared to gamble on Scott right now, in a way nobody was prepared to gamble on Max at the time. There is no shortage of more talented, young RBs in English football, and he wasn't first choice at RB for the England U21 side at the recent UEFA Championship either. Good player, and lovely person, but does anyone see him breaking into the full England side at some point?
Clearly, my valuation is somewhat through rose coloured glasses. I missed the 10 month left on contract situation which NCFC had in mind to accept Bournemouth offer. That’s Cantwell and Aarons both gone now after their valuations were much higher just a few years ago.
But in Max's case, we"ve had 5 years of first team football before he leaves and, like Robbie, I think he's peaked as a player.
Lets hope a year down the line, if thinks don't work out as we hope, everyone doesn't change there mind.
Let's hope so, Canario, but there are no guarantees in football. What we did know before the window opened is that both the club and Max felt it was time for him to move on. That has happened and now we all move on.
Now Bournemouth rumoured to be after Omo. Not sure of the figure that they have in mind, but £20m doesn’t seem far out based on Alex Scott fee paid recently. If it’s true, will NCFC stick or twist?
I'd personally take £15m and call it done. Think he's another who is just about at his peak. Though would need replacing, someone like Cashin from Derby, 1 year left on contract? Or Edwards from Posh?
Like new CB Emmanuel Adegboyega, Montóia will be 20 a month from now, so both could be pushing for a first team place before long. Good to have that sort of depth, especially if McCallum goes to Swansea.
