Not sure why we think JWP will get one last emotional home game for us? If I were West Ham, and negotiations were progressing, I'd absolutely not want him playing in that match in case of injury, and would get him over the line before that. Sorry, but let's be realistic...
Oh yeah, it is extremely rare which is why it is so special. The only similar example I can think of is when Mark Noble went down with West Ham and stayed to take them back up. Nothing wrong with it but just a shame really
I vote Option C), neither of the above. Most likely we'll shift a few, get a couple in (including a striker, hopefully).
I think it suits us not to play them him too. We need that money to reinvest and there's no point risking that for sentimental reasons.
I think we all need to spread our wings at some point. JWP is like the kid who comes to Soton Uni, meets a local girl and stays 20 years. At some point you realise there is another world out there…
If he is definitely off then I don't want to see him Saturday. Sooner we sell him, and any other leavers, the better. The longer we leave it the harder it will be to replace him.
Amazing how quick the moods changes. A dreadful performance from players most of us think should not be here and the seeming confirmation of an iconic player who, and this is the key part, was always likely to leave and suddenly there are people across the two forums saying things to the effect of “SR are just going to recoup their investment and cut their losses. We will not be making any more proper signings - only loans and young players” There isn’t much evidence of this. Indeed the evidence points to the opposite : - Focused recruitment of new head of football operations with someone with a good reputation - removal of previous chief exec - intense pursuit of a very specific manager despite it being seen as disruptive - the two signings so far being one for big money by championship standards and the other being an established top championship player who is not just an untested young player - majority stake purchased in another club for the network - holding out for our asking prices when a deal could be done quickly by capitulating and going a few million lower These don’t seem like the actions of a set of owners who just want to cut their losses. Granted there could be a sudden and drastic pivot on the back of a poor showing in the league cup in our managers second game with a fully changed 11. But that would be a little drastic
I kind of expect us to lose out to the other two relegated teams for the pick of the players. They both seem to be in more of a position to move right away and their financial situations don’t appear to be as bad as rumoured. That or they are doing a big gamble on automatic promotion this year. Would be a shame. Martin did say we might be looking at something due to Tino’s departure but it seems like it isn’t Aarons. Perhaps that link is because we have been linked with him multiple windows in a row - even when we had both Tino and KWP. I would expect a Djed Spence link next
I'm not suggesting they're asset stripping with a view to ****ing off (unfortunately) I believe they want their money back, so their wish.com vision of Borussia dortmund can continue So with the following main outgoings of the players we actually needed to get out of this league of, Tino- £30M Lavia-£50M JWP-£30M How much will be/won't be spent on players before people realise SR are definitely trying to recoup money from their last 2 ****e windows?
