Swansea v Northampton Competition - EFL Cup Stage - First Round Venue - Swansea.com Stadium Date - 8 August 2023 Kick off - 7:30pm Following their hard fought 1-1 draw against Birmingham in their opening Championship fixture of the season, next up for Michael Duff’s re-shaped Swansea squad is an EFL first round match against Northampton at the Swansea.com stadium. On Saturday, Jerry Yates' late strike cancelled out fellow debutant Siriki Dembele's first-half effort as the Swans drew 1-1 with Birmingham in their Sky Bet Championship opener. Fresh from his £2m transfer from Bournemouth, Dembele was in good form throughout - even earning praise on social media from new Blues co-owner Tom Brady, the great NFL quarterback - and netted in the 45th minute after sloppy play by the Swans. However, following fine work by Matt Grimes, Liam Cullen squared to former Blackpool forward Yates, who coolly slotted home from close range in the 75th minute to earn Michael Duff's troops a point in the head coach's first match as boss. Whilst the Swans were drawing with Brum, Stevenage started the new Sky League One season with a 1-0 victory at fellow promoted side Northampton. Boro's first ever win at Sixfields came courtesy of Carl Piergianni's scrappy late goal as Steve Evans' side began life in the third tier with three well-deserved points. The Cobblers hit the frame of the goal twice in the space of three minutes early on as Taye Ashby-Hammond tipped Patrick Brough's shot against the crossbar before Tyreece Simpson found the base of a post from an acute angle. The visitors failed to hit the target with a number of long-range efforts, but they increased the pressure and eventually took the lead with nine minutes remaining through Piergianni's close-range finish. Jordan Roberts was denied by Lee Burge before Marc Leonard nearly rescued a point for the Cobblers, with his stoppage-time free-kick dropping narrowly wide. The Swans first played the Cobblers 103 years ago, and in the 52 matches played, the Swans have won 24, lost 18 and drawn 10. The teams last played each other 4 years ago - that game was also an EFL first round fixture - with the Swans running out 3-1 thanks to late goals from Andrew Ayew (2) and George Byers: Turning to Tuesday evening, I’m going for the same result as 4 years ago, 3-1 to the Swans
Bit of a hoohah at Vicarage Road.... peeps with brollies being refused entry and it was pissing down. Lot of disgruntled folks it would appear! What's the policy with the Swans?
Can’t readily find anything specific, but for a concert 6 years ago, the Western Mail reported that they were forbidden: “When it comes to preparing for wet weather, waterproof clothing is recommended, but umbrellas will NOT be allowed into the stadium.” That said, watching a concert would be different ….
Let's just say my Watford season ticket holder acquaintance was not happy! They had to put it under a random car outside the ground and retrieved it after.
Not sure what team will be on the pitch tonight. I expect MK up front with Ginnelly making his debut. Feeling positive so going for a 2-0 win
So this will be Swansea reserves v Northampton, we will make too many changes and nick a 1-1 draw only to go out on pens. edit is fisher starts we lose 2-1
