Doesnt seem like anyone else has actually bid so obvious they either want to keep him or pay through the nose for a 19 year old with little experience (though klopp must want him if we have bid 3 times). The loss of henderson / fabinho does make light in the centre of the park and Southampton know this hence the no budging on price. Save face and walk away or pay the 50m to find out hes actually not all that hes being hyped up to be. Maybe chelsea and can sign him and loan to us for 6 out of the 8 year contracts they all seem to be given there.
Qualifies as HG right and is approx half the cost of Rice. Silly summer of fees and Saudi involvement doesnt help the situ.
I don't think you could. Mixed results and performances, we blew Leipzig away similarly city in the Charity Shield. For comparison, the preseason leading up to us winning the league, again we had mixed performances and results. I think we beat Tranmere but didn't win another game?? Have to admit I will feel a lot happier when we get another signing done. I've said all along that I wonder if it's Klopp who is reticent in bringing in new players because he knew exactly how the owners operated when he signed a new contract. Surely he wouldn't have done that if he was as frustrated with them as a lot of our fans seem to be.
Getting silly now. I don’t quite understand how it takes so long to put a bid in. Clewrly want him. But X and is rejected. take a week then bid X plus 5 and gets rejected. take another week…. And now it’s 5 days before season start and has missed all the pre season. If end up paying 50m for him then just been really poor planning. Heck even the 5m we might save if got him for around 45m might not be worth the saving in the short term as it’ll take him a few weeks to get up to fitness and tactics.
How often could Lavia play if we did sign him? How often is too much for a 19,y/o so he doesn't become another crocked Michael Owen? We would still need someone to play DM when Lavia is being rested. Even when he isn't injured we would want to rest him and need cover. Regardless of his cost, I still think we should be looking elsewhere. Being able to qualify for HG in a few years is a massive plus for Lavia though... And I suspect that's why we're still trying hard to work a deal. I suppose I could not be lazy and look it up myself... But have Southampton been playing him every week or have they been giving him ample rest?
We’ve read it all wrong and they won’t be budging, seemed pretty obvious when the 2nd was rejected out of hand and they pointed to £50m, again
They don't have to sell, contract isnt running out. He's not agitating for a move (credit to him). If circumstances were different they could be bargained with... But if they don't want to sell, why would they drop their price. Doesn't sound like he will be unsettled if we don't buy him.
I'm really worried about the size of our squad. I think we need to sell another midfielder. And we need to offload one of the numerous RB backups we have. .... Oh!
Well with no CL you’d expect other than injuries first 11 won’t change a whole load for league games. Then EL will be a mix and I’d expect players like Bajcetic doak Bradley Morton Clark to get lot more minutes along with fringe players like Matip Tsimikas Gomez
They're going to have to. Glad Bajcetic will be getting more time. Hopefully Bradley is up for it too.
can't see Bajcetic getting much game time for a couple of months as he is only just returning to full training and every indication is the club are being cautious with him .
If we don’t buy a DCM before the window closes, I’ll eat my hat. likewise a CB. We are not as loose with money as quite a few others so we watch every penny and see who we can afford after each purchase. Reality is that we probably need to sell to afford the inflated Lavia fee plus another….. Or I might be completely wrong and Mito is right, it’s all a charade.
I genuinely don't know what will happen. I think we want to sign more players but equally won't be surprised if we don't.
I wouldn't mind us not buying anyone else if the lot we had showed any sign of knowing what they're doing. I've never before seen a pre-season where the team was so shapeless, and I'm afraid to say that to me it all seems to be trying to accommodate one player. I just hope that Klopp says "we gave it a go, it doesn't work, so let's get back to a sensible approach".
