I’ve always maintained that I’m not negative, just realistic. And I can see huge signs of improvement, a clear direction and a fantastic young manager. We really need a proper striker but I am starting to feel very positive about this season
I think that second goal is trademark for what Russell Martin wants from his teams, so to be able to put together those patterns and unlock a stubborn defence in the first competitive game is pretty exciting.
It's encouraging that we were still looking for the win so late in the game, we deserved the 3 points and earned them in the end by keeping attacking.
Just watched the highlights again and have to ask what Che‘s celebration after his goal was all about.. the finger behind the ear would seem to suggest he’s a bit pissed off with the criticism that has come his way, or am I reading too much into it?
I think that it was aimed at the Wednesday fans that booed him when he came on (he used to play for the Blades)
I understand the concerns regarding the slow possession and I agree the team needs to learn how to pick up the pace, as we had them against the ropes in the first half and should really have got ourselves out of sight. On the flip side, the possession football is new to a lot of the squad and without that more conservative approach during pre-season and for periods of yesterdays match we probably wouldn’t be as well equipped to have taken care of injury time as beautifully as we did.
I woke up this morning and the song 'O what a beautiful morning' was going through my head and hasn't stopped for most of the day!!
Am I doing the Gillingham match thread or are we employing a cup specialist and I focus on the league?
