Here we go again. Another wild journey begins in high summer for the Addicks and their legion of battered fans. New owners, and as it stands, the promise of a better squad for Dean Holden to try and mould into promotion candidates. And the campaign starts against our near neighbours from across the river, newly promoted Orient. I've swerved the whole preseason, and haven't yet invested in a stream season ticket. I ws vaguely planning to wait until september, but as it's a fresh start, I can feel myself considering getting the first month to see how we shape up. It's hard to predict much even though we have actually played a preseason friendly against these guys, so no prediction from me, but right now, we need to find a partner for May, and tighten up our defence, as we still seem more like a sieve than an iron curtain. Similarly I think this is very hard to call. Teams that go up as strongly as Orient tend to do well early on with a settled squad who know each other well and we are at about the same level as last season currently. Neither a loss, win nor draw would particularly surprise me. We may or may not be stronger in a months time.
First day games can produce confusing results. We really need 2 wins and a draw minimum from our first 4 league games though. And at least 10 points total from our first 6 games. If we don't get that, I think we're in for another disappointing season.
Away win. The promoted teams invariably pull a few surprises in the opening games. Orient won the title by a mile last season.
