I can’t believe the negativity of our fans sometimes. We played a team away that have been promoted and therefore confident. We have been relegated with a new manager. We absolutely bossed that game particularly in the first half. We could and should have won by more. I was encouraged but wasn’t blinkered either
It was? Care to elaborate? I had to answer the first line on Tom's behalf as me wasn't prepared to answer the question properly
From what I watched, Saints boised the game overall, our team devoid of any confidence last season. It was impressive, and we can argue it was a team promoted out of division 1, but who wanted to meet Saints when we met Leeds o. Our first day out of div 1. I was really unsure how this season would go and in June I thought we could be in for a really tough season. I think our transfer business has been outstanding so far, I like what I have heard about the manager and sounding out ex players who had issues with the set up, so just maybe he is the man. I just thought your opinion did not embrace a great result and a pretty string performance
Great to get 3 points, and we looked comfortable for most of the game. But there is definitely room for improvement in the final third. So I agree with Libby. That said, hopefully it was down to stubborn defending and opening-game-rust. Once we make a few tweeks hopefully we can get better at killing games off. Can expect much tougher opposition though so we need to stay grounded.
Well I didn't see them personally so educate me? I've not read everything either. Joined the fred fairly late.
So long as it isn't outright slagging players off, then I don't see the harm in a bit of constructive criticism, win, lose or draw.
Not sure you can really make a judgement until you're at least 5 games into the season, but that was a lot better then starting the season out with yet another loss. Martin really has worked wonders so far though. Hopefully with a few more additions this month we can really build on it.
I didn’t say we were perfect. We normally get off to a slow start but we won. We definitely could have been more incisive and clinical but I thought we dominated the game. Now Wednesday might turn out to be a poor team but being as they were promoted they were probably confident. Possibly more than us. I’m going to enjoy the fact that we actually won our first game. We loose So many of our first games it feels like we are playing catch up for the rest of the reason. After this one I don’t feel that
I agree with pretty much of that so we're not far apart at all Not sure you can compare Weds to us in 2011. For one their manager has changed and they have the oldest squad in the league. But I take your point here. I just think our creativity was poor given the amont of possession we had. In my view people get carried away with meaningless possession as in 2023 we're told that's how football should be played. For me it's all about chances created. 45% possession with 3 chances created is better than 75% possessio with 1 chance created. Personally I don't find the style in itself entertaining at all if we're not creating chances - death by million passes. I've no idea on transfer windows (Didn't know who Manning was til tonight!) so can't add anything there unfortunately. I disagree that I didn't embrace the result. I didn't come in specifically to make this point but because I responded directly to a post I felt innacurate. If you're saying I shouldn't do that after we've won then I'm afraid I'll have to politely decline.
I was very pessimistic after last season. Didn’t think we’d slide straight through into league 1, but wasn’t much more hopeful than that. Only 1 game but we won playing positively, so am daring to dream (with fingers firmly crossed)
