That was Stewart and his agents fault, it was never taken from the table after his injury just the club wouldn't allow him to sign it, there maybe an offer now that if it was signed would be the same offer with clauses in to do with the injury or prove your fitness and the original offer is there.
I'm just guessing at the second part as the changes but the first part about the club putting it on hold is right

Jobe 7 on the back. Those with Bellingham already printed can have them exchanged free of charge.

Excellent gesture from the club to exchange the shirts. Well done.

I understood no club has made an offer for Stewart? And we do not know how much he was offered last season, though it is unlikely to have been less than the higher earners here.

It was THAT contract he should have signed, his first really good one and one that would have set him up. His agent is an idiot for not telling him that. Further benefits or moves would have followed had he continued his form.

Now, if he gets back playing in October, he will have played only a small handful of games in over a year, with a serious injury behind him.

No-one knows. But given that, I doubt there is anyone offering any more now than we were offering this time last year. And he has now spent over a year, possibly ending up two, on much less money. That will take a lot of making up.

He has taken some extremely bad advice, and everything now depends for him on recovering fully from one of the worst injuries in football. Unfortunately this is not certain at all.

Regardless of one players being incorrect by a few grand it’s not going to be too far away, it’s still a huge jump from what we CAN spend - apparently anyway.

I’m just making my uneducated assumption based on the info that’s out there and the fact 2 of the newly promoted L1 sides have wage bills higher than ours

And I'm assuming the people that look after wage structure at the club have a good idea of what we can and do actually pay so that we never fall foul of ffp wage rules

Yep. I think he must have realised he had rolled the dice and they'd came up badly.

A pro footballer, and certainly one 26/27 and who hasn't really earned a lot by that time, should ALWAYS, sign the first " set you up" deal he can get, especially at a decent club.

Very bad agent probably, but he's a fully grown bloke not a callow youngun and should have known better.

Well you can also understand why the club took his earlier reluctance into account when they revised the offer after his injury.

He had months to sign a contract and didn't. Still hasn't.

If they DID revise the offer in Jan (and I’m pretty certain they didn’t) then I can understand Stewart’s retisence

Yes. But he sat on an offer for months on end, so you can understand the club wondering about his commitment if he only wanted to sign it when he was crocked.

In all honesty, I'd be wondering whether or not I'd play him when he gets fit, if it's just to show other clubs that he is fit and recovered. It's not all about him, there are twenty odd other players and much else besides.

Ultimately, the goals he scores this season could be the difference between promotion or staying in this league. So I say let’s finish as high as we can and then see who wants to sign what contracts if we are a Premier League team

There are numerous methods of recruitment. There's the data driven approach, the manager has full control approach or you can just stick an advert in the chronicle like west ham.
