Tbh, If you told us we'd potentially be able to keep JWP and Alcaraz in midfield from last season I'd rip ya arm off.
Me to. That’s why I don’t think Wilcox will lose any sleep on West Ham moving onto new targets. But I still think JWP will go to a premier club in the last few days of the window. A few loses from West Ham or a club like Fulham and they’ll be knocking on the door again.
Saints? Angers have accepted a bid of €10m from an unnamed English Championship club for Batista Mendy. 6ft3in defensive midfielder, 23 years old with about 70 league games under his belt and France youth caps.
No we don't. But if we're buying players to showcase them and flogging them the very next season then we'll never ever be successful. I'm sure we're all happy if it enables SR to buy a club in the Algerian league though.
Who said about flogging them the next season? Relegation has forced our hand with Lavia, but even then, we're not just rolling over. And are you seriously suggesting SR use money from player sales from one club to fund a purchase of an entirely new club?
Lincs has a point, he becomes another update in the ‘squad Southampton could have had if they didn’t sell their best players’ articles that come out every 6 months. Selling a young player for good money who wasn’t pushing for a move when KWP is likely to move and more likely to want one is disappointing. our successful years are outnumbered by our unsuccessful ones as well so the business model doesn’t excite me.
I get your point but I guess it depends what you define as “successful” is for us? I haven’t heard of any business model that doesn’t involve being taken over by some multi trillionaire that excites me
Are you seriously suggesting that SR's multi club approach is good for ours? That aside, They'll sell a player the second there's a decent profit on him. How will we ever achieve anything if we'll sell off our best players the second another club comes sniffing? It's ****ing mental that SR can take over, buy mostly ****e players, relegate us and sell the ones who'd probably help us get back to the prem and have fans applaud them for doing good business.
2 key points here. Firstly, the money we are getting here is huge. We sold Mane for £36m, i know it was a few years ago but still, £40m for Tino is incredible business. Secondly, it is all down to how we reinvest. If we generate £100m a year from selling these players, we can afford to build an all round better squad. If we continue to spunk it on the Carrillos and Onuachus of this world then we will continue to struggle. The selling isnt the issue. It is the reinvestment.
What? They've turned down 3 bids for Lavia where that would be the case. 3 as well for JWP. You're letting your dislike of SR cloud your judgement.
I’m sure SR wanted to stay in the Premier League, keep the likes of Lavia, Livremento etc and build progressively as we’re never going to be able to compete financially with the top 6/7, but this model does prove that if you buy the right youngsters they will still have big sell on values through turbulent times. We’ve just sold a 20 year old with 30 premier league appearances for the same price that Leicester sold an England international for. We will probably soon sell a 19 year old with 29 appearances for even more. In the premier league this would lead steadily to buying better players (possibly), but relegation and FFP especially in the Championship, is a bitch. Some may not agree but I think SR look like they’ve got there **** together by putting the right people in the right positions, and only time will tell. But as is life, some people will never be happy.
if that’s how you see it, ok, but I’m here for football not transfers I would rather watch Tino for a season than wait and see what dross we can sign for 10 million. reinvestment is the issue so the logical conclusion is stop selling the best players.
Im not averse to selling.Lavia is too good to keep, JWP free kicks are going to be in demand. Lots of dross we bought that need shifted but likely won’t. But selling young players who aren’t looking to move feels wrong.
