Don't want to go over £25m? Think we should keep him then. There are a few players here where I don't want to blame clubs for being put off by our valuations, but JWP in the Championship is worth more to us than he probably is to any PL club, similar situation with Tella and Burnley. When you sell these players you are gambling the possibility of promotion which is worth far more than any one player. On the other hand you have a situation like Lavia where retaining him seems pretty much impossible and clubs are nearing £50m so its more palatable (even with the clauses).
Would be very nice having JWP and Smallbone as our CMs for the season (granted we probably still need to sign another). That said, a lot can happen between now and the window shutting.
A post on the Burnley forum: “Pace's daughter has been contacting people on social media asking them to post '#freetella' content as part of a campaign to, in her words, "persuade Southampton to loosen their grip of him“
Utter state of it. As if a twitter movement would make us drop our stance. "Alright lads, there's a freeTella trend on Twitter ... better reduce the asking price. We cant handle that level of pressure"
**** Burnley, **** the whole ****ty town and it's ****ty football club. If they can't afford the price we want, they'll have to go back to Lidl to do their shopping
Ah come on. They didn't pay more than 15m on a shiny new stadium, maybe they can pay something and us taxpayers pay the rest of his fee.
‘Hey James, We would like you to join us but I have to be honest with you, we don’t think you are worth a quarter of our last midfielder. Sort it out won’t you? In eager anticipation, West Ham’
I would be delighted with £25 million to JWP. I think we have seen the best out of him and feel is value will diminish quite quickly. He has been ineffectual the last 18 months and it is time to cash in. My fear is that we will lose these players before we have had a chance to replace them.
I'm glad you're not on the board then! I would also disagree he's been ineffectual in the last 18 months.
