It’s not ‘manufactured negative’ ffs. You need to get a grip. He played 5 games and scored two goals and was injured for months after. Nobody’s saying he was ****e but the way some of you bang on about him you’d think he was world class. He did okay in the 5 games he played. That’s it. Wasn’t some managerial masterclass by Rosenior some of you think it was.
His run in the side also coincided with us going on a decent little run and looking like we might trouble the play offs I always wanted him back, yes he got a freak injury but these things happen. I also reckon he'd be available for more games than Benji. Looking through Benji's career he's often spend a good chunk of the season injured (not as bad as last season for us mind)
He did better than ok in the 5 games, people wanted to sign him permanently off the back of them. It's clear he was playing much better than he had been at his previous loans so Rosenior had clearly got him going.
It makes perfect sense, he improves us and will be a lot cheaper than Benji. I'd like us to bring in a proper target man to replace Tetteh as well though
Only question mark I'd have over Connolly is that he's missed a lot of games in the last couple of years not just with us. I can see the sense in a loan with option in jan or free/nominal fee signing though.
I don't suppose he'd settle for a play and pay deal, plus a guaranteed smaller monthly wedge. What's happening with Twine? Anything?
I heard tonight that Burnley are signing Andros Townsend. They also signed Redmond, look like signing a winger from the Bundesliga. I think Twine may well become available.
If it is it'll be later in the window and dependent on Burnley getting someone better I expect. Prem finished later so it's earlier in their pre season still which holds a lot of championship recruitment up. Someone like Delap wouldn't be 2nd choice at man city so was always going out on a championship loan for his development. But as a rule it's 3rd choices and prospects who move early from the prem. Second choices usually depend on prem clubs landing their own targets first.
I'm not sure we'll see much more business inward until the last week of the window (bar Connolly) hopefully I'm proved wrong though
Quite poor that since we’re still another goalkeeper, defensive mid and another winger from looking like a complete and balanced side. So much for getting players in early. Last week of the window is four games into the season and to be lacking in key areas of the pitch that late into the window is troubling.
I get that but some of the transfers we got late into the window last summer were shocking. Harvey Vale and Salah-Eddine the main ones and Pelkas hardly had a huge impact. Woods was rather late into the window if I remember as well. Christie was the only late summer signing that improved the core of the squad. It’s been an unimpressive window so far and I’m not holding out that it will get much better. Still significant weaknesses in this squad.
Has regressed terribly. Looks so nervous on the ball, over-thinking everything, it was so clear even at the time he was making a massive mistake leaving.
Simons and Christie were both decent late acquisitions. One a PL loan and one a free agent showcasing the two types that can become available later in the window as interest and other deals firm up their options.
Stoke are a club that are having a solid window. Enda Stevens, Ben Pearson, Daniel Johnson, André Vidigal and the two lads they’ve signed on loan from Wolves are all good signings. That’s the sort of business I expected when Rosenior said business done early. Sunderland, Bristol City and Brum are doing really good business as well. We seem to be lagging behind because, as Howden says, we’re just not the exciting prospect Acun and Rosenior think we are.
Not very good management of our FFP headroom when Stoke and Brum can out-spend us, is it? Really shows how ****e last summer was.
