The non story of a transfer ban - it's been lifted on the payment of €3,750 !! All over 3 grand, unbelievable!
I think it was some sort of solidarity payment to Kalu's youth team? I suspect it was just some administrative oversight, the equivalent of forgetting to pay the Dartford crossing rather than doing 120mph up the M1.
That's the bit I don't understand. He's no longer a youth player, has been playing in Europe for six years, we are his fourth club in that time - so why on earth are we expected to make such a payment? In the greater scheme of things, the amount we paid is inconsequential - but not if every club has to pay similar for every Nigerian player who ventures away from his home country - that makes it a scam as far as I'm concerned. There's also the issue of does this apply across the board? I don't recollect ever hearing that we had to pay this for the likes of Richarlison, Pedro or Asprilla.
And fans say the Pozzos are inpatient and demanding. Quite frankly I think comments like this show some are no better! They want a long term plan and stability but also demand instant results.
We have, but the one name missing wasn't dross - an international player of some repute. Although plenty of the usual suspects didn't think too highly of him...
For anyone who, like me, hadn't heard this - Tommy Smith's son Max has been given a scholarship... https://www.watfordobserver.co.uk/s...henko-tommy-smiths-sons-new-watford-scholars/
The heading translates as 'All Pozzo transfers from Watford to Udinese' - but I daresay that you could argue that cancelling a contract by mutual consent and then signing with a new club four days later doesn't constitute a transfer. Could also argue that Sven Kums never set foot in England, never mind Watford, so never played a competitive game for Watford - but he's on the list.
It makes me think was getting into the Premier league all worth it? - the club seem to have big debts, there is a lot of coming and going with players/managers so there is no continuity or ability to get to know them (build a connection as people say) And for me even worse is we clearly now have a number of "supporters" in the fan base that are very toxic who hate almost everything about the club and other fans who don't quite conform to their view. Of course everyone is entitled to an opinion but do we want fans worried about going to away games incase hey get attacked or even at home have to move to avoid abuse? Apparently if you liked Sarr or Kabasele you are "weird" and "odd" - I actually think they were 2 players who did their best and cared about the club to some extent tbh which is what fans mainly want. (Maybe Sarr less so last season as he clearly grew frustrated with life) Now not saying the club don't deserve criticism or questions and asked in certain situations and obviously we want to win games but it just seems we are another set of supporters who demand instant results/a lot of new players because that is what happens on Football manager and a new manager every so often.
More widely there have been issues with drugs and young football supporters (see the crazy scenes at the England euro final a few years ago). I wonder if that's part of this too when it comes to fans at away games? I certainly wouldn't take back those Premier League years though! It was fun while it lasted.
Agree. I'm tempted to ask where these 'fans' were in 1982 (probably not born yet) - I was only here for a relatively short time but certainly don't remember any such anger being directed at club/owners/players. Of course, there was no internet back then - no 24 hour access to journalists or pundits vying for popularity by spouting nonsensical opinions into cyberspace - and no social media to act as an echo chamber for those opinions and influence the hard of thinking. The advent of social media has virtually normalised in many minds the idea that ranting angrily without any thought about the truth or the consequences is acceptable. Sadly, it doesn't only happen in football - self-awarded Google degrees in a whole range of subjects are evident everywhere. I'm a member of a particular political party, and my support for that party is based on both the evidence of my eyes and research undertaken using 'official' sources rather than TV or press. The level of easily-refutable nonsense & lies about the party spread by the media constantly amazes me, but what is worse is the way it is all repeated parrot fashion on social media.
