JWP will move if the club accept a bid from somewhere he wants to go, but he's happy to stay. The same with Tino and Tella. Both very happy to stay. Sulemmana isn't likely to go anywhere unless a great bid comes in. He's got a hamstring injury, that's why he's not played. This from a good source I see regularly but as he always says, this is today and tomorrow is tomorrow. From a member of SW. Little supposed ITK news.
Surely the club has to give permission for the buying club to speak to the player, at this point personal terms and transfer fees should be discussed concurrently?
It used to be called tapping up but think it’s just generally accepted practise these days. I think every club does it and as annoying as it is when selling a player as can unsettle them, when buying it makes perfect sense. Weve obv done it when trying to buy Lavia and got Mac etc. same thing prob happened with Bayern talking to Mane before we sold him. I’m sure saints are prob doing it to players they want to buy so don’t think any club can get on their high horse about it these days. Id assume club talk to the agent, agent is already aware from the selling club if there is a chance. I guess it’s in everyone’s interest to get a deal done quickly if a fee is agreed so don’t want to then spend 2/3 weeks sorting out wages with player in limbo.
Just said on our board wouldn't surprise me if we did a deal similar to the Mac one. 35/40m up front with realistic add ons up to 55m. You guys get a bit more than initially wanted but have to wait a bit but we can put our good news that we got him for cheaper and keep fans happy while also spreading other costs out a bit for ffp
He isn't on big wages here, and is our most valuable asset that we are likely to sell and it seems like we've already signed his replacement in Charles. So theres no rush in us selling him for less than we want. I can see us wanting a fair wedge up front as well as a sell on, because with the way things are going he could easily be an £80m+ player in a few years. Could for example see him replacing Bellingham at RM in 3 or 4 years. With the sell on that we have to Man City, that just drives the price up that we'd want up front even higher. And when you see the prices that Brighton are putting on Caicedo, and Chelsea on Gallagher, I'd imagine we'd be looking for around the £50m mark tbh. Especially as Arsenal/Chelsea have also been sniffing around. Be nice for it to get sorted sooner rather than later, but think we are actually in a pretty good position to wait until we get what we want.
Firstly, why would Bellingham leave Real Madrid and secondly, he's a different type of player to Lavia. Ancelotti plans to use him as a number 10.
Well I assume Bellingham will want to play in the PL at some point. I'd be surprised if he's now set at RM for the rest of his career. And yeah tbf, didn't put much thought into it. Not a like for like replacement in the positions that Bellingham plays for RM. It wasn't meant to be that deep though. Just an example of the type of fee and club that Lavia could easily move on to after Liverpool and why we're unlikely to do a deal without a sell on.
That's how it should work in theory but as others have said, it it now common practice to "tap up". Clubs can still cross the line though. Whilst conversations with agents are now accepted and commonplace, direct contact with the player is crossing the line. I think that is why we reacted the way we did with Liverpool as he had apparently already had meetings with Klopp prior to any official bid.
https://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/announcements/265720-liverpool-fc-statement Followed by a world record fee for a defender. Very soft.
I very much expect Liverpool to do like what you are saying and finding a way of being able to tout a “win” in getting a bid lower than 50m accepted. Then the media that is packed with ex Liverpool players can gush about their transfer mastery as always. Indeed I expect the final deal to be undisclosed with Liverpool briefing the media that it is lower than what it actually is. I thought Mac has a release clause. Didn’t realise there were add ons
Think the Mac one is all a bit strange. Lots of variable things but think generally accepted was some sort of release clause but not a straight forward ‘x amount and he’s yours’ type one, hence the add ins etc.
Martin also said he'd be making changes for the Bournemouth game. With another friendly on Saturday that makes sense.
