This is why Stokes and McCullum want Bairstow in the team. It doesn't excuse or compensate for the dropped catches, but you don't get this sort of hitting if you pick Ben Foakes

Steve Smith would’ve got that given. He’d have thrown it up. It was almost identical to his catch but he’s a cheating bastard

A claim might have helped mind!

But I've always said that Root fields very deep at first slip. At least a yard or more deeper than other first slippers. Too near the keeper too sometimes actually, but the depth he stands has cost a wicket there, and its not the first time.

He’s no deeper than the Aussies we’re mate. That only ever comes up when this happens and they’ve shown side on of both sets. He’s oniy a yard deeper than the keeper and 1st slip is always deeper. Smith would’ve been celebrating there. Guaranteed. As he did for that “catch” when he got Root. Root thought it bounced which is why he didn’t as he is a proper cricketer. By definition that stops him from celebrating those. Spirit of the game and all that. That was as our as the Smith one where the third umpire said “fingers clearly under the ball” which they weren’t. Don’t think either were out,

I think they all could come up a yard mind, apart from when Woody is on.

But I'm not the only one to mention the depth Root often takes, but just need one of these out tonight.

    .
Just catching up. But if it was Smith or Head, they both walked, so the umpire doesn't have to.

Yep, I have already pulled out of tomorrow's golf game and Sunday is also looking doubtful, fair weather golfer!

They say tomorrow is a wipe out. I doubt that. Even if there is 15 overs...then Sunday wrap it up.

I really really hope we get the chance to bowl at them. Couple of sessions will probably do it. Be a real shame to have The Ashes decided on a wet Sunday afternoon in an empty ground
