Seems to be because there will be a huge uplift in crown estate profits. They'd be due double that under the old formula by the looks of it.
What if you could have afforded a third child, so then had one, maybe two or three years ago. Fast forward to now and your circumstances have have changed through absolutely no fault of your own....what do you now? It's not like you can hand it back, but that's a bairn possibly now in child poverty.
I go and get a better job. Or another job. I do a job way below my level of qualification if necessary. I don't expect the state to look after them for the next fifteen years while I sit and watch the telly. Mrs Exile watches a TV programme about a couple with 13 kids. Firing one out every year to 18 months. They run a bakery and work all hours to support them. They can have as many kids as they like as far as I'm concerned. The only circumstances outside your personal control are illness and a war being on.
To be fair Charles will be working flat out opening those forty new hospitals, inspecting thousands of new police officers and knighting all of Boris's cronies
I agree with you that people need to think hard about the financial implications of having kids and factor in possible changes in circumstances. You then need to factor in childcare depending on the ages…and the cost of that is an absolute disgrace. I do think economic downturn should be added to your circumstances that are out of your control mind. I worked with a lad who had 1 kid, his Mrs worked part time so was receiving support payments. She genuinely wanted to work full time but the wages available, minus any support from the government meant they would be much worse off and wouldn’t have been able to afford childcare. All of his money went on bills and she paid for the food. For the record I have 2 kids and learned very quickly that a third would be too expensive (plus I’d have been getting on a bit!). My circumstances changed a few years ago and now I’m separated which has knackered me financially and all my available cash goes on the bairns. I certainly didn’t plan for this but I’ll be damn well telling my kids to think about these things when they are older and planning on starting a family.
I think economic downturn would definitely have been a factor previously, but the one we're currently in is a bit weird. Usually it means no jobs available, it certainly did in the 80s when my mam and dad had to move to the north west, but all we hear is firms crying out for staff. There seems to be jobs going everywhere.
I can understand why. Central London is fair enough, you don't need a car at all there really, but all the way out to the M25 is crackers and all about making money. But it's hard to convince people living in central London that public transport isn't like central London anywhere else in the country.
I lived for 30 years in West london, and when i had to buy a parking permit for outside my own house, i turn the front garden into a parking space. ULEZ sort of forces you to buy a new car....there is hell on. ps the ULEZ system was first brought in by Bonko

Khan's had the benefit of a free run of it for most of his time as Mayor so it'll be interesting to see him under real pressure. His behaviour indicates he's the type to get carried away with how fantastic he thinks he is. Getting up at a public meeting and trying to lump ULEZ presenters in with COVID deniers and racists was a disgrace.
Can l firstly point out, l do not live in London now. I have two vehicles, one 14 years old, the other 3 year old which is Ulez free at point of entry into London. The older vehicle passed it's annual MOT just over a week ago and passed the emissions regulations as part of that MOT. It was as clean as the other vehicle and meets current stage 6 emissions regulations which came in September 2014 and applied the following year. Why on earth should it be charged £12:50 for entry is unfair if applied to locals.
Because it's nothing to do with emissions. It's all about the £12.50. Did I hear correctly that the number of deaths Khan is quoting as being directly attributable to poor air quality is basically made up?
ULEZ certainly does seem to have been the deciding factor, implementing something like this at a time when cost of living is spiralling out of control was probably a daft idea...and then not canvasing the local's properly on the subject.
