It feels to me like he no longer met the fresh-hold for inclusion and was being reviewed. Did he deserve to keep his place? Certainly if he was a positive public figure they would have kept him, but they didn’t see him that way. I am not sure I can see much wrong with that. The only undisputed fact is he did not have enough money for inclusion in that scheme.
Yes but only up to the point of discrimination. it is absolutely unacceptable to discriminate based on race, sexuality, gender and political views. I have no idea why this needs explaining. Where are you morals and principles? This is not the sort of behaviour that should be accepted from any banks in a civilised democracy. But it’s happening more and more. This is just the most public case. Another prime example is how banks are stopping people from buying cryptocurrencies. I think it’s morally outrageous. They shouldn’t be able to stop people spending their own money.
I don't really understand the whole Farage thing. Regardless of whether he had his account closed for his views, associates etc, or because he didn't meet the account criteria, he was offered an alternative account from Nat West so I don't really get why it's such a biggie.
Rubbish. It is so easy to buy crypto in multiple different ways with any bank, if you want to buy crypto, you absolutely can. You are perpetually morally outraged on behalf of morally dubious people. I am surprised you ebb and flow enough to be in a state capable of being outraged again as you rarely seem in any other state.
Coutts is a designer bank and Farage enjoyed telling people he banked with the same people as royalty.
I get that it's an issue for his pride, but how is it news? I hope he'll spontaneously combust live on air at some point, and it won't matter who he banks with then.
Hey, Matt Le Tissier says that he’s been on this planet for 53 years now, and he’s noticed nothing has changed looking out of his window. Now THAT’S science.
I wonder what kind of window he has. Maybe it is a mirror and he hasn’t realized it just yet. Things are certainly different out every window I look out.
Wrong, as usual. Many banks have stopped & limited transactions. I know because it has literally happened to me. The banks know that their time is nearly up as the digital age will render their immoral, corrupt businesses worthless like it has with many others.
He does have a great point about the insane levels of climate propaganda at the moment though. The mainstream media are trying to whip up a frenzy and scare everyone again. I imagine it will be “climate lockdowns” before too long.
Absolutely. Destroying the world is way down the list of things to worry about. I think we need to worry more about what happens to Farage!
"Mainstream media" and "fake news" are buzz words on right wing channels like Fox News, Newsmax and GB News.
I’m with you on this. I work for the USA’s largest bank, in the UK, on a UK contract, but for a US division. The hoops I had to go through to get employed, the background checks etc were incredible. All my social media accounts (lol probably not this one) were checked and things that happened 30 years ago in my life were noticed. I did my A levels 35 years ago, and my contract was held up as I didn’t send them the certificates or proof of pass…despite having a later degree. That is how thorough they are as they care about reputation followed by reputation followed by reputation. Coutts may be part of Nat West, but it is their reputation, like all banks that they care about. They are a ‘private’ entity and if they don’t want a certain individual banking with them, then they don’t. However, a dangerous precedent set now…who is to say that they won’t withdraw facilities to say a black or gay person and then cite political reasons? Dangerous situation.
Yeah, I'm with Os in that I don't like it, and I don't like the 'mission creep' that's coming in. I find Farage repellent as a human being, up there with Wootton, but I don't feel this is right.
