I don’t know much about him but it feels strange that they will bid that for a central midfielder and not slightly more for one of , if not the, most effective attacker from their squad last year. A player who is used to playing for them and their system. Unless our value is well north of 20m - in which case he likely stays It’s also strange because going by transfermarkt values (which I know aren’t foolproof) they are going more than double for this guy but seem to at most want to match Tella’s value - again despite him being an effective attacker for them who is used to their team. It’s rather odd really. And this guy has one year left on his contract and Tella has two. Seems like they tried to take the Mickey with Tella It really does point to a limited budget because it would seem like they wanted a winger and central midfielder and got a free winger and spent the money on a central midfielder instead. Although I assume there will be more signings. Still doesn’t preclude a certain degree of budgeting
Can’t see why they’d loan him to the championship. He’s beyond that level now unless his recovery from injury really isn’t going well
I figured Coventry would struggle to hold onto Hamer but surprised it's Burnley who are in for him. Very nice player, though.
Is 29 seriously being considered 'old' now? I know it is, in terms of transfers, because there is less of a re-sell value, but in terms of an athlete's fitness? That's madness. I thought it was proven that players tend to hit their peak around the age of 28. Especially in the modern game; players can generally last a bit longer than in the 90's. I'd say Redders has a few more years in him, and let's face it, Burnley just need to think about this season, and survival. It doesn't matter one iota to them if Redmond is over the hill by the '26/'27 season.
Maybe until January? Just for the guaranteed minutes and (you would think) goals. It was a nasty injury and he's still fairly raw. But agree on the whole, you'd expect teams from Brentford down in the PL and a whole host abroad to be interested in him, certainly on loan.
Seems like a nice bloke. So I wish him well But a genuinely awful footballer. Never premier league standard in a million years. Awful scouting from us
Lyanco. Comes across as a nice guy and always felt he gave it his all. But my impression of his quality never changed from the first time I read his Wikipedia page and read about the relief of Torino fans at his departure. The fact that my first impression based on Wikipedia and Torino gossip ended up being more accurate than whatever our scouts saw is telling.
I hope the first thing Wilcox does is overhaul the scouting network completely. Not sure how we do things, but their record of 1 decent player for every 10 ****e ones needs massive improvements for a club of our stature to be a success. We need to be finding diamonds in the rough early. It’s definitely possible, clubs like Dortmund and Atalanta manage to find world class players all the time for peanuts. Now we’ve dropped down another rung in the footballing ladder we can’t afford for them to keep getting it wrong
It's less about scouting and more about being a desirable destination for those talents, really. Not that Dortmund's scouting isn't very good, but most of their world-class players were world-class prospects who had a lot of competition for their signature, and they chose Dortmund. It's what we're trying to do with the City pipeline and our other very young signings (though obviously we aren't going to get the same calibre of players joining us in the near/medium term).
